A day at the stables

Glad to hear you are able to keep up the good work! You look so happy in that photo from last month - what a happier mode it seems compared to all of those physical problems such a short time ago. Hope you get more chances to keep up with the horses and riding, now that spring is almost here!

I'm so much fitter and happier now Kathy! I'm careful about some of the tasks at the stables, I just can't lift bales of hay if they're soaked through. Other than that I muck out etc and get a good physical workout from a day there. The equilates exercises are definately making my back and leg stronger,I'm getting a better stretch and a 'deeper seat'. I'm due another visit on Tuesday

Update time while I've got Pete's computer at my fingertips!
I've been fitting in at least 1 riding lesson a week on Merlin, and out hacking we've cantered, galloped and jumped a stile! (I was out with the stable owner because Kim was on holiday, and he decided I was balanced and improved enough for going faster. Then he explained I had to jump the stile as it was the only way forwards. Merlin pricked his ears and we sailed over in fine style. I loved it!)
Next news, 2 new foals have made their arrivals! A colt from Barbie the arab mare, and a colt from Meg the big tb x Cleveland bay.
And finally, Nuts is starting back under saddle. Only 2 short sessions so far, but she's lost so much weight her western saddle fits her again, so we had fun trotting through weaving poles, inspired by the barrel racing on the 'horse people' tv program. I managed to get a few paces of cantering from her, but she'll need to work up her fitness levels. She's got such a jaunty little trot that moving with her is like salsa dancing!

As soon as I've got my home PC in operation I'll have tons of photos to upload. Barbie is so foal-proud that I only got glimpses of the colt, I haven't met the new filly yet.

A Day At The Stables

Speaking of BABIES....! Take a gander at the lady mare that spending some time with us at "sex camp"! She's a pony mare for a track and has the most beautiful horse to human manners. You can do anything with this mare! She's just so blaise about everything. And her color is just icing on the cake. The only thing I don't like about her is that she's got the typical quarter horse feet, teacup sized! I hope Alex manages to improve on that with the baby.

What a beauty!

She reminds me a lot of my first horse, although mine was taller. Sounds like she doesn't have all of the bad habits that mine had, lol!

I wish the other two pics I tried to load had come through. She's got the prettiest pair of big, ice blue eyes! She apparently throws the color and the eyes as well.

Alex has been sweet talking her every night. He now comes into the barn prancing and arching his neck. Man! He's beautiful when he does that! Both their colors and their dispositions would just be a beautiful combination. Now if her woman plumbing would just decide to be fruitful and multiply!

The coloured sports horse mare Gypsy has thrown a coloured colt! I've got a picture on my 'phone, he's a beauty! I'll have to wait 'til Wed to meet him, this week can't pass quick enough. Gypsy's sister Ellie, the cremello, is due any day.

Finally organised and resized the foal pictures! First, this filly, Angelica, is my total favourite. She's from the big Cleveland bay/tb Megan, by the bigger andalusian Corsario. For some reason, as cute as the others are, we just clicked instantly. By the second time I met her i could rub her all over and she's got into the habit of grooming the top of my hair for me (she's a big girl!)

It has been SO long since I was around horses - I really miss them!

Barbie the arab had a chestnut colt by Hirudo the smaller andalusian, he's tiny compared to Angelica!

And her sister Ellie the cremello had this huge coloured filly

And finally, Misy had a filly, Musica. Dutchess had a colt foal that was very weak, the vet put it to sleep after 2 days as it was fading.

Gorgeous babies!! Its too bad about the other one that didn't make it. So sad when that happens.

Let me tell you, if I lived over there, and they were being sold, I'd buy Angelica and Gitano...What are the plans for them? I guess I should say, what 'job' were they bred for? Dressage will definitely be Angelica's strong discipline!! Look at the fantastic shoulder on her. Wow. And that little Gitano, he looks like he's got lots of spunk! I'm in love....

The original plan for the stable owner buyng the andalusians as colts was to see if he could get potential dressage horses from them. He'd got the sportshorse mares (both by Wolgang Amadeus Mozart) to see if he could get coloured foals, Ellie the cremello threw the buckskin Corsaria 2 years ago so to get 2 big coloured foals with good confirmation has sent him over the moon.
Kim's been offered first refusal on Gitano, but she may have the chance to take on Corsario instead, and as he's already been schooled to medium level dressage it's a tough choice.
Angelica is for sale, possibly to go as a foal at foot with Megan, which will be heart-breaking but with no more breeding here it would be better for Meg as she's too young to just retire. If I had the money and time I'd make an offer, but I realistically haven't got the ability to give them the input they need.

Oh, and with all the excitement of the new foals, of course I haven't neglected Merlin! We both got a little over-excited over being finally alowed to canter, so Kim made us go back on the lunge so we behave ourselves! Also she's getting tougher on our transitions and halts.

And not forgetting still having fun with Joe, and Nuts is back under saddle, much to the puzzlement of her yearling, Luna!
