Here is a update: We are going to wait untill the reptile expo to get a corn. The show is on August 28 (I think). The vendors will be selling many types of corns, all kinds of morps! I am so exited, this will be my first show/expo. At the show I want to look for bubblegums, amels, red blooded (the all red corns) and others. Who knows, I may even end up with two hatchlings! I'll be the one who is buying the corns and things I buy. So I may end up with two. :) I know for a fact that the corns at the show will all be healthy and feeding good. Very good.

Just thought I'd share my news.

How do you know that they will all be healthy and feeding good? I've worried about going to shows before for just that reason. Because it is a show and people might come from out of the area, and might be selling lots of snakes, they might sell something that is less healthy and not eating as well. And there would be less recourse then if you purchased from a local breeder who you knew, or from a pet store either of which would want to maintain their reputation and ensure they sold healthy animals.

Personally I think a show is MUCH better than any petshop for purchasing a snake. And if it is a BIG show, alot of well known breeders might be there. You just have to watch who you buy from. If it's someone from this site, you're probably all right :)

If I lived in Maine, I'd be hitting up Jay and PJ (PJC Reptiles) or Piper for a hatchling!!

That is true--if you know who the breeder is at the show, but I've thought of going to my local show and I have tried to do research on who would be there, and have never found any information on any of them.

One thing about shows is they can be a breeding ground for possible contagion. I don't see many buyers or sellers using any kind of antibacterial etc... practices. So the possibility of spreading something is always there. Sure it's healthy there, but it (or you )may end up bringing something home you didn't intend to. I always wash my hands before during and after shows. The new animal is always quarentined too....
PS) 99% of my snakes have been bought directly from the breeder. The biggest reason is my fear of "show-bugs".

You should go! No rule says you HAVE to buy anything, and who knows who you might meet!

That is a good point though!
My favorite way to get corns is sight unseen from a breeder I trust.
I have NEVER been disappointed that way!

Me TOO!! I've purchased several and have always loved what I got! :D It's so much fun getting them - like opening presents!

I have purchased 2 of my four snakes from local shows. Both were healthy, if a bit small for their age do to maintenance diets(which many breeders both online and at shows adhere to). I'd like another snake in the near future and I would not hesitate getting my next one from my local show. Both for the fact it's only a half hour away and being able to see and hold the potential baby I may buy.

I think that PJ will be selling as one of the vendors at the show. I will ask to hold the corn, and ask if it has ever missed a feeding ect ect. Don't worry, I will not buy a corn that is un healthy or mean. I too think that corns from shows are much healthier (sp) than the ones around here at the pet stores. Thank you all for replying fast.

This is the show I'm going to:

Well I know one person who is going and is a vendor. Her user name is acapt. She is on a diff forum, a leopard gecko forum. I may buy a leopard gecko from here. The forum she is on is GeckoForums. net (without the spaces). She is very kind and has answered all my questions.

There are a few other on GeckoForums that are going as well. I'm to lazy to go look and see what their user names are :p
