abbott corns...

carl3

NortheastSnakes.com
I have always heard about corns from Abbotts line but never gave much thought to it until someone posted an incredible animal and stated they bought it from him. Does he sell corns? If so, where do you find out about them? Or is he someone that only goes to his local shows? Just curious since next year I am looking for a male okeetee and a few people have posted pics of the exact appearance I am looking for in an Okee, and they were from the 'abbott' line. Any thoughts?

Hi carl3......Lee Abbott is who you're looking for. He has some awesome snakes! I've seen him at Daytona, F.I.R.E., and the Tampa shows here in Fla. Don Soderberg from South Mountain has got some okeetees from Lee, he is planning on breeding them, and classy guy that he is, he is calling them the Abbott line. I have a baby from Lee and he is just great, and getting brighter with each shed. I've tried to attach a pic, but I'm very technology-challanged so I'm not sure it will work.

yay! It worked! the previos pic is my most recent one of Diablo taken last week (age 7 months). Here's one (I hope) just after I got him from Lee at Daytona in August. He's 4 months old in this pic.

another question...

Do all corns from Abbott line exhibit similar characteristics? Also, if you don't go to the shows you listed, how can you buy from Lee Abbott? No website? just curiuos

ps...really nice pics

Skeeter, those are really beautiful pictures!

Is your snake really that bright in color, or is the lighting? Either way...very cool

Thank you very much! Diablo really is that bright....I'm amazed every time I look at him. I'm really hoping he turns out like his dad. The first time I met Lee, he had some pictures of this absolutely incredible Okee. I also thought that the pic looked so great because of the lighting, but then he brought out Dad in person and my jaw just dropped (I'm sure I looked like Homer Simpson drooling over doughnuts!). He is the real deal, for sure. Lee was very professional and just wonderful to do business with.
I'm glad to see him get the recognition he deserves. Next time we have a photo session I'll make sure my little guy is not hungry - he just would not sit still!

P.S. carl3.....I sent you an e-mail, please let me know if you got it. I still have frequent arguments with this computer! Thanks!

As a self-proclaimed conisseur of Okeetees

I must say that is as pretty a hatchling as anything I produce! And any that pretty are holdbacks, for future breeding or trades. What is the age? Mine usually don't really start showing black for quite some time. Also curious about the filial generation (how many gens from wild caught stock).

Here's an F1, produced in '98, that had nowhere near that much black as a hatchling. Yours might be a stunner!

Thanks, elrojo. That snake of yours is a real beauty. Diablo is an April '03 baby, so he is 7 months old now. I don't really know anything about his family background, other than to tell you that seeing his father in person was quite an eye-opener! I can e-mail you a phone# if you like, you can most likely get more info straight from the source.

Wait a second!!!

It just occured to me that I've dealt with Lee. I knew the name was familiar, but it all just came together. I either swapped corns for some of his graybands, or bought them outright last year. At any rate, some of my GBK records have his name on them. I'm going to do a search through my address book and rolodex and post a number or address when I find it. As I recall, he was a good guy, and his GBK's are the nicest I have. Will post again when I get his info.

I don't know where in Fla Lee lives, but I can give you his phone#:(941) 366-7923. I believe he goes to just about all the shows here in Fla. You won't go wrong dealing with him. Good luck!

He sure does have some beauties!

If you already have some of my line of okeetees and are looking to outcross, you should know that most of Lee's original stock came from me. But he has also added some wild-caught locality stock in the last few years, so I got some from him that are only 1/2 related to mine because I wanted to outcross as well. I don't know if he has gotten stock elsewhere, or how it may be related to other breeder's stock. I haven't had much time to visit with him in the last year or two. Lee has always kept very good records, so if you are trying to outcross either from mine or any other breeder's okeetees, you should mention it to him. I'm sure he can sell you some that are either not related to mine, or only partially related. If you don't already have some, than just ask him for the best ones since the lines won't matter to you anyway. I am addressing this because I remember seeing a post from somebody on the other forum who was asking about Lee, and he/she specifically wanted to outcross. I didn't have time to answer there, and more people seem to be into okeetees here anyway, so I am replying here instead.

Personal Opinion

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and, in my opinion, Kathy Love produces the best Okeetees. Check out the two she sent me last year.

Very pretty snakes

Interesting pattern on that female. I have a similar abberant hatchlings from time to time, usually female. Just one, this year. As a guy trying to breed consistent blotches, they drive me CRAZY, but 10% or so of buyers will pick those out. They still grow into beautiful snakes, as your photo demonstrates, and if anyone wanted to create zig-zag Okeetees, the foundation animal is there!

Please pardon the photo quality!

my 03 okee...

Here is my reason for starting this thread...I bought this beauty, an 03 female okee from Ricks Exotic Pets, who had gotten the parents from K.Love and were beautiful (and can be seen on his site). I saw the parents in person and I knew that they the baby would be gorgeous. I hand picked it when he just about all of them to choose from. ANYWAY, next year I would like to get an 04 male okee with really thick black borders with little or no white around them. K.Love had an awesome one that really caught my eye at the Philly NARBC show but I simply don't have room now for more snakes but next year I will b/c I am moving this upcoming May. I will be kicking myself later for not buying it! LOL. Anyway, until next year, I'll have to watch in awe over some of these awesome okeetees that people are posting pics of.

(ps...Kathy Love...will you be at the NARBC in Philly next year too?)
