Adverage size?

kevo26

i love bp and corns
Can anyone tell me what is the adverage size of an adult corn snake and weight please.

Average length - about 2 1/2 - 5 feet
Average weight - about 3/4 - 1 3/4 pounds

well i dont know how much my snake weighs but it is 26 inches and i think it is a year old i hae had it for 10 mounths and when i bought it it was 18 inches long
so i guess it is still growing thinks for your help

any corn over five feet is PROBABLY a male

But the largest Okeetee (or corn period) I've ever seen was a less than stellar w/c female. Over a pound and a half is PROBABLY obese. Miamis run small, Okeetees run big; generally speaking. Color morphs mostly came originally from Florida, where they are larger than most Miamis.
There was a snake Beauty Pageant at our local Nature Center, and I saw two female corns than must've weighed three pounds. They were grossly overfed! :(

so pretty much my snake would be a sub adult or a yearling he/she is a amel are they usually big or small?

actually....

my two longest snakes - both just a tad over 5 feet are females - okeetees of course - and also - bought from Rich - again, of course! I also have a classic and a ghost of almost that length too - both males.

i would say about average ;)
predicting a corn`s length solely by its morph is not going to be accurate as they vary enourmously from on individual to another...
Just for the record. my snow is about the same size and age as your amel so all is ok :)

what if my amel accidently ate a nother sanke almost her same length whould she get a lot of size from that big of a meal?

Could kill her actually. I believe a couple people have mentioned a hatchling dying while trying to eat a hatch mate. So I can't see it being much different with adults.

Also too big a meal can cause other issues, like regurging which you don't want.

Sometimes it takes years for snakes to grow to their potential. They never really "stop" growing they just slow down so slow you don't even notice it and almost stop but even old snakes keep shedding and what not. Five year old smaller snakes say, may still grow to five feet, it maybe a half an inch a year or even less but by 15 years old that can make a differance and they could reach up to 5 feet or more. Although I have never heard of a corn larger than 6 and a half feet.

well she did eat her cagemate i dont know why but she did. I did not want to house them together but it was only fo a night, well any way the snake she ate was a a corn snake 5 inches smaller than herself and also thinner well its been three days since the instident and she has almost completly passed the snake through her system i am sure she will be ok and she went into shed today as well. the only think is that makes me mad now that everything is ok with her is that her meal cost $30.

Yes, and it could have been fatal. Really, it could have. Its really not unheard of.

You shouldn't house corns together, and cannabilism is one of the many many reasons.

Good luck in the future and buy a 5 dollar rubbermaid to house your next corn in! :)

well the corn that was eaten had its own rubbermaid cage but the lid was messed up, so i did not want the snake loose in my room. i put it in with my other snake just for a night tell i coud buy another one, well i went ahead and baught another snake and a good rubbermaid sweaterbox for it

If your snake didn't have a HUGE lump,

then your other one got out after all! Check out Soderburg's site (cornsnake.net) for some photos of cannabilism among similar size corns. Escape sounds more likely than cannabilism to me, even though it IS possible it ate it's cagemate. But the remaining snake would have a sick-looking lump.

my viv is 100 persent snake proof i know for a fact it is because i raised one of my corns for 11inches long to 27 inches he never escaped. pluse my amel ate the snake and i can hold a flash light up to her and see the snake in her its kinda cool and she is was streched out for a day then he started to digest it not there is only a lil left for her to finish digesting.

Slightly off topic but I just wanted to comment on the growth rate of some snakes. My Carolina is just under two years old but is four feet long, she's big for her age. But, on the other end of the scale, my yearling Amel is only a few inches longer than my one month old Intermontana. Granted, they have slightly different genetics but still, he's less than two feet.

well i just found out that my femail amel is actually a male so that douse anwer some questions on size. male are much smaller usually than the females right?

Not really, it depends. The longest corns recorded are males and if you are looking at males and females of the same morph the males *tend* to be bigger. Saying that, my female amel is quickly catching up on Pretzel (adult normal) and she's about a year younger than him. Do amels tend to grow bigger than normals??
