Iv kept him in my hands when iv had him out so far because id be terryfied of loosing him i i put him down on his own?
advise please?

Does it seem like he's trying to bolt when you have him out? They can be surprisingly fast when they want to, I wouldn't put him down on his own anywhere until you're comfortable that he's not going to try and escape.

I agree with Tom. My snakes are either in their enclosure, in a feeding tub, or in my hands. I don't let them explore. I've had snakes "jump" out of a feeding tub and into a crevice I never even knew existed. Also keep in mind that snakes seem to really like to defecate when they're allowed to crawl around freely on your furniture or floors. :awcrap:

My guys are all different. Maizey, the adult corn, can be set down anywhere in the house or outside. She moves at the speed of a glacier. Zee, the Tri-hog, only cares about burrowing, so he's not going anywhere but down. So he's safe in the house, but outside, I have to keep him from burrowing into leaves or earth and disappearing. I can put Zee in a tree, but have to spot him- he isn't the best at hanging on. Choco has just reached the size where he can _almost_ ride around my neck, and I have set him down, very closely supervised, to crawl on a coffee table with a lip, or momentarily on the floor. His behavior on the ground is still not predictible to me. He's very safe to put in a tree and let climb. Addy usually stays where she is put for a few seconds, so I can set her down to quickly do something. Often if I set her down she is very interested in flaring and standing up like a cobra instead of escaping. But when she goes, she is fast. I don't let her get out of my reach in the house. Outside, I make sure she is in a clear area, and let her crawl. Even at top speed, she can't get away. I can put her in a tree, but there is no guarantee she won't just drop to the ground on purpose. Inez is wild, and I would never set her on the floor. Recently I have set her on my bed for a second while changing a shirt she musked on. (A frequent occurance.) But I can put her in a tree and she is content to climb, without any flying leaps into space. I think she is just happy to not have me holding her, whereas Choco and Maizey, put in a tree, stretch out to try to get to me.

I base my decision on whether to set a snake down or not on if they are going to be in escape mode when set down, or if they are more interested in exploring. You can tell how they are when you have them in your hands, for the most part. If the snake is calm and relaxed and not flailing about and trying to get away, then he likely will be calm enough to set down in an open space to gauge his reaction.

wow guys thanks a lot for all the feedback!

thats deffinately helped! My snake is calm when i have him in my hads and seems to like just weeving in and around my fingers. However i would deffinately not be happy putting him down! especially not on my floor wer he could get under my bed! I think i may wait till he is at least a yearling and a bit bigger before i do this and il still keep a very close eye on him. Til then he can just stay in my hands, he is still gettin yoused to this so i think for now it iwll be for the best!

thanks a lot guys for your help.
definately assured me of what i was allready thinkin :)
