My guys are all different. Maizey, the adult corn, can be set down anywhere in the house or outside. She moves at the speed of a glacier. Zee, the Tri-hog, only cares about burrowing, so he's not going anywhere but down. So he's safe in the house, but outside, I have to keep him from burrowing into leaves or earth and disappearing. I can put Zee in a tree, but have to spot him- he isn't the best at hanging on. Choco has just reached the size where he can _almost_ ride around my neck, and I have set him down, very closely supervised, to crawl on a coffee table with a lip, or momentarily on the floor. His behavior on the ground is still not predictible to me. He's very safe to put in a tree and let climb. Addy usually stays where she is put for a few seconds, so I can set her down to quickly do something. Often if I set her down she is very interested in flaring and standing up like a cobra instead of escaping. But when she goes, she is fast. I don't let her get out of my reach in the house. Outside, I make sure she is in a clear area, and let her crawl. Even at top speed, she can't get away. I can put her in a tree, but there is no guarantee she won't just drop to the ground on purpose. Inez is wild, and I would never set her on the floor. Recently I have set her on my bed for a second while changing a shirt she musked on. (A frequent occurance.) But I can put her in a tree and she is content to climb, without any flying leaps into space. I think she is just happy to not have me holding her, whereas Choco and Maizey, put in a tree, stretch out to try to get to me.
