• Hello!

Either you have not registered on this site yet, or you are registered but have not logged in. In either case, you will not be able to use the full functionality of this site until you have registered, and then logged in after your registration has been approved.

Registration is FREE, so please register so you can participate instead of remaining a lurker....

Please be certain that the location field is correctly filled out when you register. All registrations that appear to be bogus will be rejected. Which means that if your location field does NOT match the actual location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected.

Sorry about the strictness of this requirement, but it is necessary to block spammers and scammers at the door as much as possible.

American's are lucky to have craigslist...

RyanR

Canadian Boa Fanatic.
because all we get, are crappy, Biased sales sites.... the biggest online classified site in Canada, is ran by a bunch of moron's,

Now this may not seem like much, but, Canada doesn't have the reptile sites the US has, So i'd say, a good 90% of my sales came from Kijiji to local reptile enthusiasts.... now, It will be next to impossible to move them...

I received this E-mail a few hours ago.

Dear RyanR,

Your Kijiji Ad about Boa Constrictors (148019961) has been removed in accordance with our policies.

Effective this week, drawing from user feedback and in line with the Kijiji values, the sale of snakes on Kijiji will no longer be permitted. Two main reasons motivate this decision. First, municipal, provincial and federal laws restrict the possession and sale of many types of snakes across the country. The rules and bylaws vary from city to city or province to province, making it difficult for our Community Support group to monitor the ads posted on the site while remaining in compliance with the law. Second, many snakes, such as pythons or vipers, are extremely dangerous and shouldn’t be advertised on Kijiji, as allowing these posts betrays the spirit of Kijiji as a safe online Community. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Kijiji

For information on our policies, you can visit: http://kitchener.kijiji.ca/p-Policies Any future ads that are not in compliance with our policies will also be removed. We sincerely value you as a member of our trading community and look forward to a continued successful relationship. To ensure this relationship, we must respectfully ask that you abide by our Policies in the future. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

I'd also like to point out, how they class VIPERS and PYTHONS equally, WTF

Perhaps you could also start a petition, backed by legitimate research on the safety of these snakes when properly housed and cared for, and submit it to them with a long list of names against their "new rules". This petition would probably be helped if you were able to compile a basic listing of regulations, in the sinmplest terms, based on the territories and what their regulations would be, such as permits required and/or forbidden animals.

Ity sounds like a lot of work, and probably would be, to cmopile all the information. But if you have the petition, and have already saved them the legwork and can prove that the regulations are not "that bad" to make it a major concern...it might work.

Of course...it might not. But at least you'll have tried...
P.S.--I would advise against defending vipers. That is always a losing battle, and you don't want to lose kingsnakes, cornsnakes, boas and what-not because of having vipers as a "rider"...

I already sent out a long E-mail Regarding just allowing the dangerous species not to be listed for sale, gave them some facts, info about the most popular species that happen to be next to harmless, and all i got is "our moderators have to watch adds and delete them one by one if they aren't in compliance of our TOS"

Pretty much saying, there to lazy to know/learn what the hell each snake is, so they blanket ban them all together.

Brutal I live in Saskatchewan where constrictors (boa's and pythons) are not permitted but I search every day for Corn's in Saskatoon,Winnipeg and Calgary and if Kijiji chooses not to allow snakes I will be stuck with pet land @300.00 a hatch ling no thanks..I would love to have our Provincial laws changed to allow those aforementioned snakes....

But did you present it with support from scientific research with factual data? I don't know if it will work, and since it is a private entity, there really isn;t a whole lot you can do. But trying is better than giving up...at least in my humble opinion...

Ryan, I could have sworn that one of the members here (from BC maybe?) mentioned once, several months ago, a site (not Kijiji) that was analogous to our Craig's List. Or the closest approximation. I just cannot remember the name of it.

It looks to me like Craig's List exists in Canada. :shrugs:

I wish I could help. People who are idiots often have a tenaciously strong and peculiar desire to remain so.

....

we have craigslist in Canada, I found 3 cheap aquariums and my apartment on it.
http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/

There is the vancuover one...

Ok, Ok.. you guys are right.. we do have craigslist, But its used 1/4 as much as Kijiji was, (hopefully used more now!)

its the same as, the americans have Kijiji, but most of them use craigslist

IMO its just discrimination, Would you rather have someone buy a boa, or a big ass croc monitor, or water monitor??

""At Kijiji, we listen to our Community. Your reaction to the banning of snakes ads was strong and emotional. Our new policy on snakes, released yesterday, was heavy-handed. Today it is being reversed and ads for snakes are again welcome on Kijiji. Only the most dangerous snakes, such as the Burmese, Indian, Amethyst or African Rock pythons or snakes on the endangered list ""
