Animal Planet on an AR bend??

I think people are led to like what they are told.... Thats why designers make so much money.... They decide what we should like....
Look at the way BMW went with their last design change... Most people hated it when it came out, now we accept it and watered down versions are real cool... We were manipulated..
The people who get involved with the antis are not all numpties, some are educated, and use the anti thing as a vehicle to career superstardom...

I turned on AP, saw the commercial for Killer Aliens immediately, then Dogs 101 came back on... and I was quickly reminded why I cannot watch this channel. Billie barks at any and every animal that she sees on TV- even cartoon animals, and AP is full of animals. And now she's barking at herself in the mirror... Oh, she's back to the TV! I'm changing the channel. Silly dog, a lot of times she blocks my view and just stares at the TV. She dislikes violence on TV too, she gets upset when people fight. :rofl:

Most of the time she didn't notice it.......
But sometimes she would turn into a devil dog and really see this pig sat looking at her....
I never did work out why she only resented it sometimes... LOL
 
While I don't like that it seems like AP is sensationalizing the negatives. There still are positive shows. The 2 that come to mind are pit boss and pit bulls and paroles. I have rather enjoyed both of those shows. There's also one that is called from underdog to wonderdog. It's a very heartwarming show. I'm a sap for warm fuzzies I guess.

Same here! I really enjoy the show "Pit Boss", and I really like what I saw of "Pit Bulls and Parolees". I loved to watch the Steve Irwin and Jeff Corwin shows, too, and "Planet Earth" occasionally plays on it, which are exactly what Animal Planet should be like.

I suppose some of the Animal Planet programs are a bit on the negative side, but they were more bothersome, to me, because so little of them have to do with animals. "Whale Wars" was alright, but let's face it, it was all about people (good message, but not my cup of tea).
"Untamed and Uncut" p**es me off a lot, and that is definitely one of my pet peeves of a show. They always say "when animals attack", when it really should be "when animals are pushed to their frigging limits". If you're sitting on your porch and a fox runs out of the woods and bites you, alright, that was an attack. When you stick your arm down an Alligator's throat and it bites down, damn, you really deserved it. Try that on me, heck, the Alligator bite might seem like a slap on the wrist.

I saw those commercials earlier today, and just last week I said to my mom, "Is it me or is Animal Planet all about pets and showing how anything that isn't a dog/bird/cat will kill you?"

I think I'll watch those two shows coming up, then send them a letter. I'm particularly sick of watching Animal Cops, Dogs 101, It's Me or the Dog, ect and then seeing non-pet shows show us animals killing/harming humans. WTF? Seriously.

The only AP show that interests me much anymore is Lost Tapes, but that, despite being about 'mythical' creatures, still shows them harming/killing humans.
 
I agree, I don't like the turn AP has taken lately. I do find the show Monsters inside me interesting, the one having to do with parasites.

I used to LOVE Meerkat Manor and Escape to Chimp Eden...where the heck did those go?
 
I saw the previews for the two shows. They come on tomorrow, just fyi if anyone cares to watch and critique. I plan on watching them just to see what they say about "Fatal Attractions and Killer Aliens" lol
 
I've been meaning to get back here to post on Lauren's thread. Animal Planet, A&E (Arts & Entertainment), and TLC (The Learning Channel),......have ALL gone off in VASTLY tangential directions from what they once originally were, that had me from regularly tuning in to now rarely tuning in.
Sigh, I suppose it comes down to who has money to pay for their show to be televised....or what the mongol hordes are willing to boost in ratings by tuning in to see.

Boy does that sound cynical. I used to love "Breakfast With The Arts" on Sundays on A&E. With the serious knowledgeable 30-something guy with the FINE ARTS. When they changed to the blonde early-20's bimbo and POP CULTURE (who didn't herself know what she was reading off the cards most of the time), that did it for me.
 
I was watching Killer Aliens and I am horrified by all the non science and the Fear factor going into this show.
i had to turn it off, killer snakes, monitors and rats.. everything that people fear . They had this woman who was terrified at seeing a monitor on her dock. She wanted all keepers to be put to sleep and placed in a freezer. I was like WTH, this would never have aired during the time of Steve Irwin. This like watching the National Enquire for stately news.
 
I just finished watching that,lol crazy lady. At least they highlighted the effects of hurricane Andrew instead of pointing the sole finger at owners that release their pets.
 
Ya, I think it is kind of funny, but I think i was annoying people here with my rants on why they are wrong, and how Nelson should be put down... Can't wait for fatal attractions though, it should be good.
 
Ok, I just watched them both. Killer Aliens was all about making exotic animals look like killers and monsters, and barely looked at the fact that irresponsible pet owners are the problem, not the animals themselves. It made the animals look like MAN killers, terrors and evil beings. Not a whole lot of science, a whole heck of a lot of speculation.

Invasive species are a problem, and some of them ARE dangerous. But instead of making a show about how much we should fear and kill them, how about make a show that educates people on their care and talks about responsible pet ownership to try and help prevent people from releasing their pets.

Fatal Attractions was different, and didn't focus on making the animals look like monsters. It was a little stupid, seeing as how they said some guy who let his (known to be aggressive) monitors run around his house together with his cat cared more about his animals welfare than his own. It talked about some lady who was bitten by her venemous snake, but it also talked about how she would go through these fads like getting tattoos, guns (though she never actually fired any she owned) and finally dangerous exotic pets. They focused on the fact that she was obsessed and hoarded her animals for the looks and the attention.

And anyway, I hate Pitt Boss. I really do. They're BARELY a rescue, all they do is focus on being dwarfs. Ooooh pity me, I'm a dwarf, now watch this obviously staged scene of a dog almost getting away oooooh. Very staged, and very scripted. Not focusing on helping pitt bulls almost at all.
 
WOW I thought this would be a hot topic this morning. I watched both shows, found them both disgusting. Very anti-pet very anti-snakes.
 
I found "Fatal Attraction" stupid((didn't watch the other one)) because it focuses on the people who do it WRONG and ARE demented and insane. I would like to believe that all of us are firmly ON our rockers and don't let dangerous animals roam around freely! Now I'm betting anti-reptile people will look at us and think we let out corns snakes, ball pythons or ANY python run ramped through our houses eating family pets and the faces of small children((or maybe ALL of the body parts of small children)) along with our venomous lizards! Can't forget those! Like everyone else has said AP is....sh** now!....Felt like I had to jump on the band wagon on this one :D
