Animal Planet on an AR bend??

I found "Fatal Attraction" stupid((didn't watch the other one)) because it focuses on the people who do it WRONG and ARE demented and insane. I would like to believe that all of us are firmly ON our rockers and don't let dangerous animals roam around freely! Now I'm betting anti-reptile people will look at us and think we let out corns snakes, ball pythons or ANY python run ramped through our houses eating family pets and the faces of small children((or maybe ALL of the body parts of small children)) along with our venomous lizards! Can't forget those! Like everyone else has said AP is....sh** now!....Felt like I had to jump on the band wagon on this one :D

Thanks - I now have an image of a 35cm corn chowing down on an 11 year old - poor snake would be there for months - and I wouldnt like to be the one to clear up after it ...

Seriously though, there will always be sensationalist crapola spouted on TV - why - because thats what people who are bored out of their tiny minds want to watch...

I've even been known to watch police chase shows when I am bored witless - although to be fair, I spend alot of the time wondering how a bit of judicious engineering of my old humber would make life annoying for the oinkers... (nothing too nasty, just a couple of extra oil tanks and some piping and a few of those nails I have sitting around welded together with the points outward... maybe a parafin tank and vacuum injector for those backroad - dont tailgate me - moments).

Seriously, I got out of my car to tell an old lady that her brake light was out and the police van behind me attempted to run me off the road - They thought I had gone to beat the woman up!?! - I had to threaten them with citizens arrest for dangerous driving before they'd stop hassling me :realhot: all for doing someone a favour *sigh*

Anyways, dragging myself back on track. People dont want to know the facts about things - they love to hear about dangerous snakes and devil worshipping because thats what they expect to hear - they dont want to see a ball python curled up happily over its loving owners shoulders, or even worse a little baby curled up & comfy in a space no bigger than a CD-Disc - or to have it slowly explained to them - with diagrams - what Pagans actually believe - which is mostly respect for nature & life in general...

Human nature... dont'cha just love it?

Nope...pretty much hate it. And I am one of those Satan worshiping Pagans that bewitch your husbands and eats live cats for breakfast so I've been their and done that, might even have a T-shirt floating around here. Maybe we should ALL right to AP, I know my Ferret group is..it will probably fall on deaf ears but if can never hurt to try i suppose...

You and me both - and anyway - live cats bite. I'll never understand the bewitching husbands thing - wives are so much more fun.

Personally I'd characterize myself as solitary witch with a allergy for silver ravenwolf that borders on anaphylactic shock lol.

Its worth writing to them - but I dont think it'll get much mileage - it seems like they arent in the business of anything other than shock-docs. They are unlikely to pull stuff that makes them money although you might get a retraction printed if enough fuss is made.

Ferrets are cute - until they think your hand is lunch - then they HURT :( - saw what I think was a weasel once in the woods up the road - I have never seen such a nasty look on an animals face, looked almost human *sigh*

I hate to drag up an old thread, but the other day AP must've been showing a Fatal Attractions marathon, so I saw a little bit of the Big Cat one, the full reptile one, and a bit of the chimp one.
Anyways, I laughed more than I got angry, because it was so ridiculous. I LOVE how they made Reptile Expos look like the black market or something, telling how they got the "undercover videos", and making it look very shaky, like they were hiding the camera under a jacket or something. Someone should tell them that most of the time cameras are A-okay as long as the vendor agrees xD Or maybe they could just go to youtube, plenty of videos there!
It was ridiculous.
The whole time with the monitor guy I was thinking, "Couldn't he have just had a heart attack?" If that's the case, then isn't it just an animals nature to eat what's around when they're hungry? But the show made it seem as if the only thing that could've happened was the bite from the monitors made him sick, and eventually his animals killed him.

Anyways, I agree with everyone. Not a very... animal happiness oriented channel anymore. I remember when it was always Big Cat Diary, Crocodile Hunter, Jeff Corwin, Animal Miracles, Amazing Animal Videos, Animal Vet, Planet's Funniest animals, and so on. Now whenever I turn it on it's "Untamed and Uncut", "Monster inside me" (HATE that show), "Fatal Attractions", and "River Monsters" (which I admit, I enjoy). It's not FUN anymore. I don't even see the dog shows on anymore, besides Pit Boss, which I don't really like.

I'll write.

Such shennagins may be laughable and ridiculous TO US...

But unfortunately, the general, non-herping public probably buys it hook, line, and sinker. And then they are happy to support more restrictive laws against "low life, black market, herp keepers and sellers". It was on TV, so it MUST be true, right?

Disgusting and sad.

I think we should all make home movies of our snakes and fellow reptile keepers that spoof sensationalized TV shows about reptiles. "When Hatelings Attack!" would be a good start.

This thread reminds me of why I turned off the TV six years ago and never looked back.

I have always wanted to get a group of herpers together to make a short spoof of those kinds of movies. I wanted to call it " SNAKES IN A VAN!!!"

It would start with a very normal looking couple lovingly packing some of their pet snakes in a van for a show. Most would be tiny babies for sale, but they would have a few bigger ones for display. They would talk to them like people talk to their dogs, showing how calm they are, and to get the audience to empathize with them. The people would drive away, but get car jacked by some really rough looking guys, leaving the couple by the side of the road. Once the bad guys discover the cargo, the fun would begin. The spoof part would be that the snakes would never do anything threatening at all. They would be just as calm as they were earlier. But the bumbling, idiotic, ophidiophobic, car jackers would do it to themselves in their efforts to get away. I would want to make fun of the idiots, while showing the snakes as victims, riding along in the van. I would envision it as a short, 15 minute, Sat. Night Live type thing. Could be fun. Any video makers want to try it, lol?

I love this idea! I laughed so hard at the title. Too bad I am nowhere near Florida, or I would volunteer to help out.

ap and killer aliens

i have seen the program and it was disturbing. if the information is correct the python population in the everglades is around 200,000 give or take. not to mention the wild populations of nile monitors, iquanas, and other various non native reptile species. i am not defending animal planet in any way, i have a huge dislike for peta and any ara group. i believe thier new programing is aimed at turning more people into animal rights activists groupies. because as you know a person is smart, when people can be stupid as a whole.
if the numbers they state are true then it seems alot of bad apples have ruined it for the rest of the caring reptile owner world.
florida even goes as far as to have a surrender you unwanted exotic pet project like they have in some places for guns.
i am not an expert never claimed to be but we all as responsible owners also have the responsibility to try to educate others about these wonderful creatures and their pros and cons of ownership.
sorry thats just my 2 cents on it.

Off topic but. I love this statement! You're either a sensible witch or a Wiccan werewolf! $RW has offended me for YEARS!
