Another Clutch!

Mrs InsaneOne

I See Snakes...
Yeah, finally! And this one is only pipping on day 82!

Our hypo het lavender x hypo het lavender clutch pipped this morning! no pictures just yet, but I hope to have some before the day is out! Plus we've got 2 more clutches that were due around the same time that I expect to start pipping any day now.

Now... where am I going to stash all the hatchlings? The last two clutches already filled up the ghetto closet rack... dang, going to have to reorganize the snakes AGAIN... lol

Hey Jenn, that's not fair, you can't post a thread about another clutch and not put pictures on, it just isn't right, your teasing us! ;)

Seriously though, I look forward to the post with the pics, sounds like there should be some good looking babies in there :)

Glad to see you are drowning in live snakelets after the power outage fiasco...Congratulations!!!!!
Thanks Nanci, it is nice to know that the clutches are all doing well so far - especially after that power outage (with temps well into the triple digests that day). I'm just glad things are turning out alright and thank heaven for ice bottles and battery powered fans! lol

:nyah:

I can't very well take pictures if the stubborn nose won't poke back out of the egg for the camera to see...

I did manage to get two teasing shots though:

Appears to be a hypo, if a tad bit darker than I expected (we'll see when it emerges from the egg). Terribly shy too... every time I peek it ducks back inside so I can't see it's full face. I'm hoping to see little gray and pink noses sticking out next.

Thank you Deb and Rich! Another nose has pipped, and it's the same color as the one I posted... still hoping to see a hypo lav pop out, I have 14 more chances right now! lol...

And pics of the first two hatchlings that are out... they seem a tad darker than expected for hypos, but I'm not supposed to get normals from this pairing - it was hypo to hypo, with both snakes virgins at the time of the pairing. Also supposed to get some gray noses, cause they are het for lavender, but all we see are hypos right now.

Here's hatchling 1

And Number 2:

I'm going to have to take comparison pictures with the normals from the other clutch once they all shed just to make sure they are indeed hypos.

I sure hope they do, I'd be a bit disgruntled to end up with normals out of a hypo to hypo breeding. Though according to Rich Z Hypo A does some funky stuff anyway. =/

All I really want is a few gray noses from this clutch anyway. Both parents are supposed to be het for Lavender. But half the eggs have pipped and all we have so far are these dark hypoish things.

A third little one left the egg tonight, though this one still had his umbilical cord attached and what looks like a tiny portion of the yolk, or maybe just the placenta, *shrugs* hard to say as I've never seen more than a bit of cord before.

I tossed him on some damp paper towel before snapping a few quick pics. If it hasn't fallen off on its own by tomorrow I may consider removing it, but feel confident I won't need to.

And a close up of the cord:

He's a right bitey bugger too. Tried to bite me shortly after it pipped, when I was clearing out a bit of moss and than struck at me when I picked him up to put him in the deli.

And this one at least looks a bit more like a hypo than the others!

He is a lil cutie!

I think you are right. I have read several post this season where people got the umbilical cord off by doing what you are doing.

Don't you love when the lil ones strike! Hopefully he does that to his first pink.

Yeah, we've had one already this year, a snow from the first clutch of ours to hatch, and at least one in both 2006 and 2007. never had a problem with the cords coming off within 24 hours and we only lost one of them, but that one was a runt (a suspected twin) that was a none-feeder, so a separate issue.

Just never had as much left before. but I'm confident he/she will be fine.

And yes, the hatelings are so cute when they get defensive. I'd tried getting a pic of this boy, cause he'd left his mouth open after he tried biting me while he was still in the egg, but he ducked back inside the egg when he saw the camera. Guess the camera was scarier than me.

Good news, his cord fell off before I went to bed last night... and he doesn't seem to have much of a gaping wound where it was - just a tiny little hole that is closing over already. There's also no swelling in that area - which is something I was worried about after first taking him out. Hope he didn't pull on the cord too much before I removed him from the egg box. Guess we'll have to see how he does over the next week and during his first shed.

All the eggs have pipped from this clutch, and out of the 15 surviving eggs of the original 16, we got a total of... 1 hypo lavender. One... Talk about annoying... I was hoping for at least 4, but we got one... I guess it could have been worse, we could have gotten none.

I'll post pictures of the hypo lavender tomorrow, along with some of the siblings.

Alright, I'm running a day behind, but here's the additional pictures I promised!

I'll do individual hatchling pictures after they all have shed and will post them in the gallery with a link on this thread for those who wish to see them!.

Enjoy
