Argument FAQ: Assembling the building blocks

I have never hunted a 'snark'
But could you, would you in the park? Could you, would you in the dark? Look up in the tree, that's not a lark. It's a rumbly, tumbly, oogly, woogly purple-headed snark! :nyah:

Eric touched on it specifically relating to Pandas, but pictures. Pictures are always good to throw into an discussion/debate/argument/shouting match/whatever-ya-wanna-call-it.

A quote, or three, that may or may not have any relevance to your discussion/debate/argument/shouting match/whatever-ya-wanna-call-it is a good addition once or thrice upon a time as well even too for.

Are you young and beautiful? Do you like short fat old bald guys?

No, I am your age and I still am not a fan of short fat old bald guys.

Wades cute lucille and has an adorable doggie;)

It is interesting that Danielle characterizes Wade in such a different manner than he characterizes himself.

An observation: People characterize themselves, and each other, not by what they actually see, but many times by their own emotional perspectives and needs.

But EVERYONE loves a cute doggie :p

This is all so off topic. Does that mean pandas must be involved?

Could someone please clue me in about the Panda thing? Why Pandas?
Why not Panda's.... They are large and cuddly (well in theory) they nearly always look cute, and everyone goes, awwwwww, when they see one....
You forget your anger and lighten up at the sight of a Panda....
Some times though we get smoking chimps and other animals.... Not that a smoking chimp is cute or cool or anything.....

JMO, Of Course!

I think that if you are going to present any side of an opinion or engage in an argument, that you should use, correct punctuation and spelling. It gives a little bit of credence to your argument and shows that you put a little thought and effort, into it.

Stay Thirsty My Friends,

Wayne
Wayne makes an excellent point. And I think I might as well say what I usually leave unsaid,...if I see little i's, no caps, no punctuation, all caps...I completely stop reading. So without correct punctuation and grammar, in my book you are virtually not there.

Brent is right, and alludes to other things important in a debate or discussion. If you are going to use facts that are not well-known, or obvious in and of themselves,...references impress me. Great sweeping out-on-a-limb statements, with no references, do not impress me.
Note, Brent and others do not like Wikipedia, because it is only as correct and unbiased as the person who put the "information" there to begin with. I tend to agree with this, although sometimes I do use Wikipedia (with a disclaimer), but usually (for speed) only inasmuch as it confirms the existence of some vague not-so-well-known person, place, or thing.

Could someone please clue me in about the Panda thing? Why Pandas?
Lucillle, I do not know the etiology of the panda phenomenon. I don't particularly care for pandas, myself. If I am in a serious discussion, or debating what I feel is an important point, pandas have no effect on me. I suppose some see them as furry, peaceful, innocuous, socio-politically neutral creatures. I'm just guessing.
I once, in the spirit of things, posted a beautiful Leafy Sea Dragon, instead. It was summarily ignored. Go figure.

Oh no not a snark, in the dark! I guess I would, I guess I could, hunt a snark, in the dark, but only in a park...from a tent, with a guide named Brent...his brain seems bent...his gun he, me lent :crazy01:

Uh oh. Wade!! Come back!!!!!

He's gone :( I done run him off.

Wade, I was just throwing a few urticating hairs after your lawyer comment.:dgrin:

Let's shake hands in the spirit of this thread and have a few beers

So I think Wade's cute because I want him to be.........interesting. I measure attractiveness by intelligence, integrity, honesty, and sense of humor. So in my book Wades pretty hot:)

Great thread Lucille! I have not always followed the principles that have been stated, but I find my self naturally swaying towards them, and I appreciate everybody's input and philosophies on the subject.
From what I've gathered in debates on this site, I think there is really no winning. There seems to be no point where someone changes their mind, and the more someone tries, the worst the debate gets. It seems to work out for the better that way, though, because it is the greatest sign of respect when someone can hold their opinions, yet agree with where the other person is coming from. The more I've lightened up on certain threads, the more I learn, and the broader perspective I've understood.

I gave you the building block lucille....remember when I said
"trick question, don't answer it" ?

(Ah, well as they say "You can lead a panda to bamboo...)

I like this post. I'm hoping that with facts and persuasion, people can change their mind. There seems to be perennial debates about things like substrate, feeding f/t, venomoids, etc where people have strong opinions, but the very art and essence of good debate is to present your side so that it is both factual and palatable.

You can't scare me little girl. I was just taking a rest. And I love a woman that can say urticating hairs.

Oh baby, you know what I like.

No I just hate being on topic. I'm going to rep you for saying that I am delightful.

Edit: crap, I'm out of rep. I'll get you tomorrow.

No I just hate being on topic.

Yeah, but this is an important topic. This board, and boards in general, expend a lot of time and energy on llamas. If we could provide 'how to debate' info for the llamas (and anyone else who has an interest)how to argue appropriately, everyone would win.

Back to the way lawyers argue: they can get dramatic just like llamas, and put on a real dog and pony show for the jury; and they can get down, and really go after their opponent. But after, they are friends together, go for a beer.
That's different from llamas. The llamas have to leave in a huff and tell the world about their sorrows and the unfairness of it all. And leave again. And again......

It's OK to get into the mudpit as long as you realize that there's a time to get out.
