We just recently (1 day ago) got our second baby snake, we've left her alone to adjust to her new home, but today her tank started to smell really bad, we believe it may be her poop because we have our other snake in a different tank but we use the same bedding and same moss and it has never smell like this, not even when she poops. My husband is cleaning her tank again to make sure. Could she be sick or something? Has anyone experienced something similar?

Is it possible that she ate prior to arriving to your house? I would check for a regurge, and if you find one follow regurge protocol. Beyond that, I have no idea what it could be.

Did you get that baby at a show? Shoot, I bet it has regurged. Not good. So go to Kathy Love's website, cornutopia.com, and buy a bottle of Nutribac. Put that in the baby's water dish, and do it every day, changing the water daily. Do not handle it at all. After eight days, feed a very tiny meal- like a pinky head, which has been rolled in Nutribac. Do not handle for five days. Then feed the rear half of the pinky, again rolled in Nutribac. Do not handle for five days. Then try a very, very tiny pink. If you can't find a tiny one, just feed half a pink, cut in half lengthwise. Continue with the Nutribac indefinitely. When you are feeding whole pinks, cut about four slits in their backs, and continue to slit the backs of the mice for a LONG time, like till your snake is on weaneds or adults.

I'd search the viv very thoroughly to find the source of the smell. It's very likely that your baby regurged from the stress of being moved too soon after feeding. So as long as you never stress it again, and follow the regurge protocol, everything should be fine. The Nutribac replaces beneficial bacteria that was lost when the snake regurged. It's pretty important to get it and use it. Don't skip that part.

LISTEN TO NANCI SHE IS THE REGURG QUEEN! IF YOU LISTEN CHANCES ARE YOUR SNAKE WILL GET BETTER!

Oh wow. we know she ate 2 days before we got her, we've cleaned the entire tank and we didn't find any regurged food, we did find some poop though. Maybe we missed it, should we do it anyways?

How do you know it was poop? And can you be more specific about what the smell was like? Like dead rotting corpse, or just really strong snake poo reptiley smell? Did you even check on the leaves of the plants??

Yes, we checked everywhere, the smell was strong but only if you got near the tank and it was on the side where we found the poop (like pigeon poop) and it was similar to my other's snake poop.

I think just in case I'd feed her a small first meal. And it never hurts to have Nutribac on hand just in case. Then you don't have any delay in treating a regurge.

We'll do that, thankyou so much for the advice, you are a snake superstar!! :)
we're getting the nutriback right now. Thanks again! oh, and our other snake, the one who's about to shed just ate an entire meal!

Good to hear!! It is unusually cold here right now. One guy at the show had 4 or 5 of his snakes actually regurge at the show because the indoor temps were cool as well. Mine fared well, no regurges. Make sure your temps are on target as well? Did you grab a copy of the care sheet?

Good luck!

Foul smelling poo is also a sign of bacterial or parasitic infection. Keep an eye on her poos and if they continue to smell abnormal get a fecal done:)

As well the NutriBac is good to give to all snakes that are new to you, as you are not aware of exactly what their gut levels are like and it does not harm them if they do not need it but will help them if they do need to be rebalanced. Kathy Love recomends using it with all new acquisitions. I took her advice with one of mine who had trouble pooping and had funny smelling poo and it solved the issue in a few treatments.
