Baby Blythe

Tula_Montage

It's Jager time!
My wee captive bred Halmahera Island ground boa (Candoia paulsoni tasmai), Blythe.

Shes in dark phase for most of these shots, to contrast she turns bright silver. Shes a joy to keep, feeds perfectly and I can't wait for her to have her first shed with me.

Yeah, she really does have a blue tail! I'm thinking its a she (even though it's far too small and young to sex) due to the absense of spurs. This is a foolproof way of sexing candoia, females simply don't have them.

You are most welcome, I just love to take pictures lol. I cant wait till shes bigger and I can get some better pictures. You wouldn't know it but shes only about 5-6inches long as as thin as you average biro pen.

Aaaaaaaahhhhh...

Tula, just when I was thinkin' about gettin' a corn for my next (2nd snake, my first is a ball python) snake, you go and post this beautiful breathtaking thing lol... OMG all I can say is OMG THAT IS BEAUTIFUL!!! And they get huge, don't they? I want a somewhat large snake but not larger than about 6 or 7 ft? I would assume this one gets alot bigger doesn't it? lol... oh well, definitely gorgeous anyways no matter what lol...

thanx for the pics, i love pics of snakes *wink wink* *hint, hint* lol

Lil. :)

Thank you! I deffinanatley wouldn't recommed these as a second ever snake. I highly doubt you would be able to find captive bred specimens easily or affordably as they are mostly WC. Plus Tasmai are a lesser known subspecies of the solomon island ground boas.

They are small isular Pacific boas, generally not reaching more than lengths of 5ft for females and 4ft for males. The biggest of the Candoia genus is bibroni which get to lenghts of almost 7ft but these are very few and far between.

Thanks so much for your advice very much... I didn't think this was one for me lol. But OMG what a beautiful snake anyways. Please give us some pics as soon as he/she gets situated lol. Thanks so much :)

Lil.

She's stunning, Elle. They have the most beautiful and elegant faces of any boas (although ATBs may tie for that). I like everything about them. Some guy on Fauna just posted pics of some of the zillion babies one of his females just gave birth to. They're paulsoni, but I don't know about the subspecies. I sure I hope I miss the ad when he puts them up for sale. I'm going to do my best to forget these photos you just posted... :uhoh:

WC means wild caught. Most Candoia in captivity (perhaps as much as 95%) are WC imports that do ok if you have the skill and the knowledge to know what your doing (I woudln't keep WC as I don't feel "brave" enough to waste my money). But it's also down to the health and strength of each animal. Blythes parents were WC but are in fantastic condition and breeding again already LOL.

Are you just going to buy every snake I do from now on? LOL!

If thats the case I'm going to buy 10 retics... and you have to follow suit LOL.

Tasmai are harder to identify because when candoia are imported it's generally from specific islands and importers sometimes label them wrong or just don't know the difference. I'm sure theres far more tasmai out there than people know of, and just assume they are paulsoni.

OMG Wow that's wonderful!!! And yes, I'll hafta agree, I don't like wasting my money either lol thx for telling me ahead of time. I think I want a type of snow corn if that makes any sense but I seen some pics of some snows and they are absolutely beautiful!!!

And thanx so much for explaining WC to me lol... I'm still a noob lol... have a wonderful nite Tula !!!

Lil. :)

Well, if I stumble upon a pair of cb (that's captive-born, if you're reading, Lil) Xenopeltis unicolor, your suspicions will only be reinforced! :grin01:

Great looking snakes! But even the "dwarfs" are too much for me. I won't be copy-catting you on those... ;)

Well, that's all interesting, but academic; it has no bearing on ME... :sidestep:

Eee I love Blythe I wish she would stay that little, I know you don't but I love the thought of a compact but solid looking snake.
