Ball Python troubles..

FINALLY

I never did get a chance to go pick up gerbil bedding, but I decided to try feeding last night any way. I thawed out a small rat, cut an old refrozen ASF in half, rubbed the darn thing all over the rat and thawed it out to be nice and warm and fluffly, then rubbed the ASF on it again. I wiggled in front of Ramesses.. and he was scared and went to the back of the tub. A few hours later it was still laying there, but I decided to leave it over night with him just in case. First thing this morning, I pull out his tub and.. NO RAT!! Hooray! This ends a 6 month strike. I'm so relieved.

I usually do leave them over night for him, which is why I had been getting so frustrated with the amount of wasted rats I had. Now that I have the bull snake it's not an issue, but she won't eat the ASFs, so I still have to chuck those some time!

My wild caught male ball python will normally go off feed in Sept or Oct and not eat again until May or June. As long as he still has good weight and doesn't appear skinny or sick I would not be worried. I normally wait 2 to 3 weeks to offer mine food during this time, he eats f/t rats. I would not try live unless he starts losing weight. I had to do that with one one my BPs but that one refused f/t and I was hoping that if that was all I offered he would take it but it didn't work and he started to look thin so I gave in.

I also found that my BP didn't seem to like the bigger tub he was in, it was 4ft long now he is in a 41qt and doing very well on cypress bedding and a water bowl, my boy doesn't like hides for some reason.

I forgot to say my boy doesn't like to be watched and the room has to be dark or he won't eat.

I'm sorry to hear that. IBD is extremely contagious and as long as they remain in the same room and are fed with the same tongs etc they will continue to become infected and die. Complete quarantine of ill animals from healthy is imperative. I hope you can save some.

Glad to say Ramesses ate again this week! It's been a few days, but I still wanted to let everyone know :p
