Ball pythons - pastel vs. lemon pastel?

Is there a different between a pastel and a lemon pastel?

Is there a genetic difference? Appearance difference? Is it just a name?

Thanks

Yes the lemons are more defined yellow. They are breed from bumble bee's I think to get one it is one of the following.

Super pastel x Bumble bee
Bumble bee x Super bumble bee.

If you want to buy one, i wouldnt bother because you will be paying $1000's for a good one.

whilst we're talking Ball's, are Jungle Pastels and Pastels the same?genetically/visually?

Thanks

Tom

There's a 2007 male for sale for $200 US at a store near me. It looks like a nice pastel to me (visually. I'm a n00b.) Is there no way this is a lemon? Are lemons always more expensive?

Cripes, I hate the BP market.

Lemon pastels were first produced by NERD. It's just a name given to very bright yellow pastels that Kevin line bred. You can still get really ugly lemon pastels...

I had a graziani pastel, by far the prettiest, blusihes pastels around but you have to pay good money for a good pastel.

There are some cheep ones on the market that would not be considdered "true" lemon. They are more super pastels that have really bright yellow in them... However they would still be sold as lemon.

Jungle pastels are just pastels. If bred with another pastel it will give you about a 25% chance of getting super pastels.

So if I buy it I take the chance that it is an ugly specimen of a supposedly better-looking morph.

I can get my hands on a Graziani pastel at a show for $200 as well if I want. At least I was told it was a Graziani.

Lemon pastels are the line originated by NERD.

They are typically said to be more yellow, but my Lemon Pastel is duller than my Bell Lines and some of my Graziani lines.

Basically, all pastels are pastels (compatible except for Enchis), and you just need to find one that is clean, bright yellow, and nice looking to YOU.

I will post some comparison shots later.

A pastel is a pastel genetically, but not when it comes to looks. I have seen some crap pastels that looked like normals, and I have owned an absolutly prime example of a pastel - he only got lighter and blushier with each shed.

You pay for quality IMO and a $200 pastel wouldnt be near as nice as a $500+ pastel as an adult.

As stated before, lemon pastel is just a name. Bumble Bee X Killer Bee (Super Bumble Bee) would give you Bumble Bees and Killer Bees. Your best bet is to buy for quality if you want to produce quality. And pastels (other than enchis) have come down considerably in price. The most expensive one that I saw this year for 07 babies was 500.00 and it was a female. You just need to find a good speciman and get pictures of the parents, however its still a little bit of a gamble how it will turn out when its older.

Here we go. Sorry it took so long.

Bell Line on the left, Lemon on the Right

Oh wow, thanks for the pics. To be honest, I actually like the Bell line better even though it's less yellow. Such a nice pattern. How old are they?

I like my Bell Line better as well. They are both 05' males, proven breeders, and will be producing lots of beautiful babies this year. :)

The bell line is better looking IMO. The only reason I think pastels are cool is cuz my black back BP is het for pastel. Lol yeah I know stupid reason. What I really want in the "affordable" range is a spider ball or 2 (Possibly in the works depending on a few variables)

Pastel is a codom trait there aren't any hets. It's either pastel or a normal sibling.:)
Here is my Matrix Blonde female (front) and Lemon Pastel male (rear starting to blue).

ahh ok .. I didn't know that.. I am not up to snuff on BP genetics. She had a pastel sibling so I assumed she was het.

Tom's right. There's no such thing has het Pastel, het Spider, het Mojave, het Cinny (and all the other codom/dom morphs)...

The last Manassass show I went to their was some idiot selling "het Spiders." I got a good laugh out of it and feel sorry for anyone that got scammed by him.
