I've heard in a couple of places that bathing your snake helps it poo, and shed. How do you bath a snake? I've a four month old ghost, who doesn't need to be bathed. (not time to shed and no poo problems) But I'm just curious about this. Any info would be great.

Oh, and I just got my snake today, how long should I wait before handling her, so as to let her adjust and not become stressed? Thanks

Give her a few days before you handle her, or play it by eye and wait a week or so if she seems very shy or stressed out.

You don't need to bathe them, just have a deep enough water container so they can do it themselves. If their shed is incomplete a helping hand might be needed though, and it's very simple. Submerge them in cool water (not the head obviously!) until the old skin is soft enough to peel away without much effort. Easy :)

A lot of people say their snakes seem to enjoy being bathed, and run in and out of their fingers getting all the old skin off. Mine wasn't impressed when I had to do it mind :)
 
All of mine hate water and will immediately try to get out of it. If they didn't shed a small portion, I just wet a paper towel, and hold it on the spot for a little while and then let them crawl thru the towel. I don't bathe them because of the fact that they don't like it and it stresses them.
 
My snakes seem to enjoy a bath from time to time, but one of them didn't like them as much when she was a hatchling. For a hatchling I would use something like a baking pan rather than your bath tub. Fill it with luke warm water, but make is shallow. If you want a "deep end" you can put something thin under one end to tilt the pan. Also, put something (like a clean rock) in so your snake can get out of the water on its own when it wants to. Some snakes really take to the water and others don't. One of my snakes has trouble shedding in winter because of how dry it gets in the house, and an occasional bath really helps her shed.
 
I refuse to give a snake a bath. :headbang:

Always try to give a snake a week or so to settle in before handling.
