bathing

Why do we do what we do?

To all,

My suggestion is to just let your corns be! They will take care of all of their natural tasks without any outside help. I don't mean to sound overly harsh, but IMHO you are adding unnecessary stress to your snake.

Remember that reptiles are cold-blooded animals that require an external heat source in order to carry on normal biological functions. Temperatures are especially important for proper digestion. Forcibly introducing an unregulated temperature extreme, like bath water, may not be in the best interest of your pet. Remember that snakes thermo-regulate, which means that they change their location, on their own, to increase or decrease the ambient temperature. They have survived the ages using this method.

If you want to use a moist towel or give an occasional bath in order to maintain sanitary conditions, fine. But weekly or bi-weekly jaunts to the ol' water hole may be over doing it.

This is only my opinion of course. I have close to four dozen snakes that I care for. I have never given one a bath, "just because". Yet even without my intervention, they eat, poop, grow, and thrive. Does anyone else think that this as an unnecessary evil?? I'm really curious.

I bath mine every few weeks or so.... it seems to enjoy it!
A put a few inches of slightly warm water in the tub.. if its warm to the touch then its too warm...
just gently let the snake in and off it goes, a few minutes excercise and i scoop it out and plonk it back in its tank.
Doesnt seem to do any harm PLUS its obviously good excercise and good for keeping it clean.

Oh and this is an english language board, as mentioned earlier it was all down to someone being disrespectful in their native tongue.

CAV...I agree!

I do not bathe my snakes unless there is a medical reason to do so. Some of the reasons for bathing would be a bad shed, impaction, etc. Otherwise, I just deal with the mess they make, and clean it out of their enclosures. It's a bit more time consuming to have to "spot" clean their tanks every couple of days or whenever they poop, but that's one of the "chores" that comes along with owning snakes.

I guess I won't bath him anymore than. But what to do with the leftover sweaterbox? Another corn? I wish! O well, Today is feeding day so before I feed him I will poke through all of his shavings to see if he pooped. If not, maybe he just doesn't want to waste that one dollar fuzzy! Maybe after a build up ;)
