Bedding?

I have a 8 year old male corn that my cousin gave me, he is very decide and destructive when roaming. Well from my understanding he has been raised on news-paper bedding, but know that i have him should i continue? His name is butter i have pictures of him in the "new member intro.", my thread is called "Hello".

I would try some aspen bedding. That's what I keep all my adults on and it works great. You could also try a product called "carefresh" that I've heard works well.

Aspen, care fresh, newspaper, paper towel, cypress & eco-earth (coconut fiber) are all fine substrates to use.

DO NOT use pine or cedar, both contain oils that are not good for reptiles.

I used pine when I first got my corn snake. It said it was a snake bedding. I hope I didn't cause my snake harm

It's just with prolonged use I believe. If you used it once for about a month, probably no harm. If you used it for several months, there could be some respiratory issues in the future.

It is the same with humans, though. The oils in some woods (thinking especially of cedar - too bad it smells so nice!) is toxic to people as well, which is why it needs to be dried and treated for human use - and for example, why it is not used for Christmas trees.

That and cedar is as flimsy as fudge. Literally.

I was thinking of switching to paper towel. Seems cheaper and easier to get and clean, but She likes burrowing at night. So....I dunno.....might be better to keep to aspen. Just a bit tougher to get here as closest reptile shop is a few towns over.

You cam get animals aspen from any pet store :) and even farm supply stores! As long as its aspen specifically for pets and animals it will work. I just use the stuff for small animals.

I concur. I bought a big ass bag of aspen from the rodent section of Petco and it was cheaper than the smaller bag of "snake aspen". Same stuff, different packaging. What a racket! I have barely made a dent in the huge bag and it has been one year since I got it.
