Blossom and Merlin ~ Pairing #3 for 2009

LOL... I do that all the time in other thread's, Sue... Good thing I try to proof-read my posts... DYK!

Great looking bunch thus far (I really need to see about making Opals of my own). Poor Nelson... Hope he starts moving better and that he makes it.

I'm waiting patiently for the update on the last two! :) :D :)

Hey Sue, just so you know, my 5-6g hatchlings are eating full pinks with no problems. ;) No pinky dismemberment needed!

Thanks Robbie, that is good to know! I do have some pinks that are less than a few hours old, they barely register 1g on the scales and they are tiny, so I might try them first :)

The Opals were a complete surprise, as I had no idea these adults were het for Amel! All I've really wanted since I first got into corns, was to make my very own Opals after seeing them in Kathy Love's first corn snake book, where they were labeled as Pearl's if I remember correctly. So if I told you that I actually cried when I saw the first Opal pop it's head out, you might get an idea of how happy I was to see it! :D

I'll probably wait until the last four pip and all 11 shed to post more pics, unless something else funky comes along, but I promise you won't have to wait too long for them ;)

They DO leave a rather large feeding lump, though. Just so you know. LOL

Thanks Robbie! :) How long have your littler ones been taking to digest then and does it seem to take them longer compared to more regular sized hatchlings? Also what temps do you have on your hatchling rack or whatever it is your using? And, do you slit the pinks for smaller babies? :)

Oh the poor little sausage! I do hope he or she turns out to be ok. I've got quite a few day-old pinks (reds) in the freezer if you need them, as I lost Annie's clutch and Pearl's babies tend to be monsters.

Aww thanks Janine! I've also got quite a few very "red" pinks, that are teeny tiny, so I should be ok :)

He/she doesn't move quite like the others, seems a little limp in the middle :shrugs: I'm hoping that it's just a little weak from the strain of hatching, but we'll see, I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I'm still a little sad that you lost Annie's clutch, but Pearl's first hatchling is a right little stunner! To be honest I've never really been attracted to Granites, just not my cup of tea I suppose, but after seeing your little one and the striped one posted by "adsclarke", I'm learning to appreciate their beauty :)

Opals! Nice, all of them.
When I see snakes missing parts (really, how many parts can be missing from a snake?) I try not to think it's sad. Like Eric humorously stated, it doesn't know any different, and it doesn't have to hunt for food. I kind of like it because its different.

Huge congratulations on getting homemade opals!! I love surprise hets. I hope the little ones that have hatched all eat for you, including the Cap'n.

Aww! Poor little pirate baby. God bless him. I hope he turns out okay.
Your opals and lavs are gorgeous. Congrats!
