Blue corn snake help (**pics**)

Not too much because I got her when she was still pretty young- but several of her toes died and she has a hard time grasping the trees in her cage because of it. Every time we go to the vet we check for signs of metabolic bone disease and liver problems. It took us a LONG TIME to convince her that vegetables are delicious. Lots of hand feeding and bleeding fingers lol. Now she gobbles up anything green and loves her treats like bananas and grapes and cucumbers.

Wow, glad you got her before it got worse. Seriously, people are online posting pics of their lunch for goodness sake, how hard is it to research how to take care of your own pet? Thank you for rescuing all those animals.

It seems like most people take pet shop employees word as gospel. I was just in a small pet store the other day picking up some pinkies as I had run out and they had some iggies in a 20 gallon tank with a sign up advertising a "starter kit". It was a 10 gallon tank, a heat rock, 24 crickets and some assorted substrate/cage decorations. SMH.

I know what you mean, I was helping a lady with a red eared slider, the thing was 2 years old and not much bigger than a hatchling, as I spoke to her she just kept saying "no one ever told me, no one ever told me" Wow, really? You had it for 2 years, wondered why it was tiny and didn't take two minutes to read up a care sheet or something? We're supposed to just magically know what you have and tell you how to care for it? Ugh, sorry to go off topic, I really do want to see how that blue snake progresses.

Here's another pic of him from right after he shed. Its kind of a weird pic because he was stretched out trying to get from me to my tool bench LOL but you can see his dark saddles much clearer in this pic.

That's so weird... makes me think of my little anery motley, she seems to be turning more and more purple. Now I don't know much about morphs to be honest, I'm great with care and husbandry but still learning the morphs so maybe it's normal, she's kinda blue up front but purple further down. She doesn't have that shedding blue color yours has though. Take a few pics in natural light when you can, and of his face and eyes. Maybe someone can chime in with a pearl or two.

Nope- his scutes are a very soft creamy yellow from head to tail with tiny speckles of black and blue here and there.

Dilute anery motleys come in a variety of shades. I've attached photos of 4 different dilute anery motley females and 1 dilute anery stripe female. Some can actually be quite dark. To determine if he is actually a dilute or not is actually quite easy. The next time he sheds, you need to look closely at the shed and if you see any pigment at all in the shed skin, he is an anery and NOT dilute. Any homozygous dilute corn snake will show absolutely NO pigment at all in a shed skin. All the anerys I have show quite a bit of pigment from the saddles so it should be easy to tell.

Thanks susan! He sure looks a lot like those lovely ladies. It would be nice if he were indeed a dilute! I am wondering looking back at these pics if he isnt about to go into shed again??? since his sadles have dulled down. But he just shed two weeks ago!

I will take some more pics of him out in the sunlight and anxiously await his next shed to see if theres any pigment :D

If he is shedding two weeks apart, something is wrong. Have you checked him carefully for mites? Any scale damage?? Retained spectacle from the last shed?

Yes- he had a nice loooong soak when I first brought him home before I put him into quarentine and I saw absolutely no evidence of mites and his fecal was clear. His last shed was nice and clean and in one peice. I do not know if he is going into shed-was just sort of wondering aloud since he seems to be dulling down again. But he is very active and eating like a horse so who knows? :) I will keep a close eye on him and we'll see what happens. I have not seen any scale damage or scaring at all on him.

I'll take some pics of my little girl tomorrow if I can get her in some decent light, supposed to be rainy all day. Today would have been perfect but I didn't even think of it, was outside with my tortoise all day. Maybe he's just growing from finally being fed again.
