Not long ago, there was a very brief, yet intriguing conversation about boa constrictors and varying color pahses. Several; people, including myself, noticed that there boas had at 2 distinct and different color phases.
Since this topic, I have been watching for mine to go through his phases, so I could try and pinpoint some sort of "trigger" for the color change. I think it has to do with shedding.
5 days ago, I noticed my boa, Simon, looking quite red and "salmony" compared to normal. 2-3 days later, he was opaque, and still the same color. Today, about 3 days after noticing the opaque stage, he has clear eyes, and this very intense, almost blood red color phase. He has not shed, yet. I'm wondering if shedding will trigger the return of his normal color phase??
Anyhow...here are a couple pictures of the red phase, and one of his normal coloration. The darker of the 3 red-phase pictures is without a flash. It is a tad darker, but the intensity of the color is more true to life. The other two used a flash, and the color is, believe it or not, a tad washed out.
