Boa morph help

Kokopelli

Resident Boa Fanatic
I know this isn't a Boa forum but... I thought you people could give me your two cents' worth:

I recently got a new Boa(BCI), my first one actually.
Now this little fella is packed with genes I think.

The father is supposed to be a Sunset cross(this is his actual picture btw)

The Mother is a Hypoblond, hypo and salmon het for khal strain albinism. again, the pic:

Now, the neonates this year turned out to be either hypoblonds, salmons and what seemed like a Super Salmon due to their far more intense coloration.
However due to the fact that this line is heavy in hypoblond(the father possibly being a super hypoblond, he never produced a classic baby) it is possible that what I have is a full sunset(?)... I've seen a few super salmons on the internet and not a lot of them look like mine. And it's kind of hard to see the difference and to know if his colors are due to him being a super hypoblond, salmon or maybe both?

Also, this is one of my boa's sisters from last years' clutch( I am putting a picture of her because she pretty much looked exactly my little fella)

And this is how she looks today(Looks like a sunset to me... I may be mistaken but what's your opinion?)

And finally here are some pics of my male BCI, named Spiritus. He is roughly 6-7 weeks old:

So... thoughts?
What do you believe I have?

Thanks in advance.

Looking at the sister.. maybe? And same with yours since they look the same?

Well, I don't know much about boa morphs.. but those Sunsets are lovely! The orange colour is amazing.

Peh Sunsets aren't Hybrids- the Hogg isle boas are still BCI (some keepers would like to have them titled differently but as far as science goes- they are exactly the same species/sub-species) hence they are not hybrids.
Yes, due to the fact that there's quite a bit of hypoblond involved, it means that somewhere along the line there was a coupling of a normal BCI with a Hogg Isle BCI- but that's not different from saying that a Miami CornsnakeXOkeetee is a Hybrid.
It ain't, just locality.

And diamondil, the father is "glowing" because his picture was taken in the evening. It's one of the Hogg isle features that has crossed over to the next generations including mine- his colors intensify at nightime :)- I got to hold him myself, amazing Boa... and the thing I liked best about him was that he barely scratched the 5 feet mark, as a fully fledged adult. The Hogg isle blood keeps them smaller which is awesome.

Try to look for sunsets/sunset cross boas. They are extremely expansive over here, but I imagine that in America the prices are a deal lower.
The original Hogg Isle Boas were significantly smaller than other BCI's, something which crossed over to their offspring.
BTW, he has a 5 years old female who only got to 5.5 feet- now that really is amazing when considering that female BCI's are perfectly capable of reaching the 9 feet mark

diamondil I have to spread some more around, dang it.
You always have a good word to say about every post.
Let's hear it for diamondil!!! :dancer:

As I'm only just over 5 feet, I always thought a boa would be too big for me. But a teeny orange/pink boa would be perfect! As adults, wold they take rats or rabbits?

They -can- take on rabbits, but it is not necessary with these fellas... I imagine that with 3 big rats they will call the feeding session accomplished.
As you have them there, you can try and get your hands on a pure Hogg isle Boa... but they aren't orange, they are pale white-yellow background with yellow sandals.

Think of a slightly longer Cornsnake, but -alooot- thicker, more assertive, just as docile and IMHO more impressive.

saddles, bah! not sandals... what the heck was I drinking prior to writing the post above?! :shrugs:

I haven't totally decided, it'll be in a couple of years, so plenty of time to research and decide. Compared to the corns for breeding, a one-off purchase of the perfect 'pet' snake for me is a longer term thing. It would be on display, not in a rack.
(I could end up with the complete opposite, like an arboreal display viv)

IMHO BCI are the ultimate display animals...
And I have enough snakes I think to form an opinion I think...
Colubrids are rather twitchy on the hands, and they tend to move alot... you can't -really- sit with a cornsnake or a kingsnake on you... he will go about, trying to explore.

Arboreal snakes... well, they are beautiful, insanely so even- but... they are rather aggressive mostly- Emerald Tree Boas, ATB's, GTP's... they all have a rep for hostility and with good reason.

All of the above are snakes that fall prey to other predators.

BCI's are elite predators in their habitat- once they achieve adulthood it's pretty much their "hood" and I really feel like you can see that in their behavior- they will climb to a vantage point and "watch over" their viv. They don't tend to hide when they grow- and on your hands... heck, they do whatever they feel like doing because their size and strength grants them a good deal of confidence. They are far less prone to being scared.

I loooove my colubrids, make no mistake, I think that colubrids have a very cute and somewhat comic demeanor. I have a GTP and she is beautiful- however, she is aggressive, she hisses and she tries to tag all the time. I can pick her up but... no one enjoys the experience overmuch as I have to be kind of careful.

With Boas I get the predatory looks -and- the calmness in one bundle.

I like'em, anyways

Sorry. locality cross.. still something I don't like to work with, in that case its no different then Coastal Carpet x Jungle.. ect.. which i am not a fan of

it doesnt take a way from the beauty of your snake..not a chance.. but it limits some peoples likings of that more in perticular.

That's a matter of opinion.
There will always be people who will go on breeding locality specific snakes... and those who will try to push the envelope and cross localities.

At least as far as my logic goes- locality traits are the product of living in a particular area. The snake still retains the similarities to the original sub-species, they were rather mildly altered due to different habitats. And as the Hogg Isle habitat is no longer relevant sadly- I see nothing wrong with outcrossing as long as efforts are made to also maintain the original strain.
Although I assure you that after a few generation in captivity and due to selective breeding, in a while yet, the original "pure" Hogg Isle Boas will have very little in common with their wild ancestors.

I think he's beautiful. I didn't know boas came in orange, either!

I think it's not one of the oldest morphs... if anything it's right up there at the front...
When I learned that there are such beasties here, I immediately did a major checkup on who is selling and I made a new friend by meeting him :)

There are also Bloody Salmons... amazing morphs... Moonglow is one of my fave but there aren't any here... and even if there were, I doubt I'd be able to afford one
