Boa Recommendations?

I think that is kind of a mixed answer. Mine is a colombian red tail so yes but some people only consider the boa constrictor constrictor (peruvian, etc I think) to be true red tail boas. Kokopelli will probably chime in with some better info/answers.

Yea, I read about boa constrictor constrictors and boa constrictor imperators, and I know some call imperators red tails, even though they aren't I was wondering if I should take the term "red tail" as being only a boa constrictor constrictor or both species when reading about them on forums.
Oh, do you have a picture of your boa for me? :)

I think what you want to call it is more personal preference tbh. ;) At least it is for me. I was looking for a Peruvian when I got my Colombian but she's a hypo and looks almost exactly the same as the Peruvians I was looking at. Plus they didn't have Peruvians at the show I went to. As for pics just follow the photobucket link in my sig. ;)

I haven't updated them in a while but she looks the same just a little bigger.

Lol Yeah, she's in shed right now or I'd try to get some updated pics for you. Her color has gotten brighter with a few sheds. Good luck with your choice! :D

A lot of people tend to call Common Boas "Red Tail Boas". However, they only have a similar appearance. *TRUE* Red Tail Boas are much sharper, crisper, and have more vibrant coloration than their common counterparts.

For example, a friend of mine breeds True Red Tails. Take a peek at the difference between these and some of the other boas you've seen. I'll even toss up my lady as a comparison against one of his girls.

Here's my girl Josie a couple years ago.

And here's one of his girls.

Look at the absolutely outstanding and incredible colors that his girl possesses. The peaks on her saddles to the deep, rich colors of her tail. That's one of the major differences you'll find.

Very good comparison! Some beautiful and striking animals there. I really wish I could have gotten a Peruvian but I love my girl and wouldn't trade her for anything. :D

Having seen Jonathan's animals in person, and having a chance to chat with him in depth, I can honestly say that I would highly recommend him if you're ever in the market. He does produce a limited number of animals every year, though, so if you want one, be sure to get on the list!

Basically speaking, the term "Red Tail Boas" should only apply to Boas out of the "Boa Constrcitor Constrictor" subspecies... the field had since applied it to any Boa Constrictor...
I usually don't care if they are called "Red Tail" or not- only the sub-species/locality interest me.

Robbie, those are both really great looking snakes. What kind of snake is Josie?

She's a common boa. Her look is actually quite variable from day to day. When she's cranky, she's a bit darker. When she wants to come out, she's beautiful and light with some pink undertones. I'll try to track down some pictures of the color difference to show you what I mean. (She's also the lovely lady in my avatar)

I was looking into those, but they get a little too big for my mom's liking. I would love to see pictures though.
