Boa swallowed rat pinkie sideways!

grankin01

Addict and proud of it!
So my wife was feeding our snakes while I was at work and called to tell me Niterii swallowed her meal sideways. She wouldn't let my wife help her straighten it out and it passed her jaws kind of bent in half. There was a lot of blood (according to my wife) which I am guessing was from the pinkie. It is apparently all over her head too. She said that it looked like the rat straightened out as it entered Niterii's throat.

I have never had one do this. She hasn't regurged and was acting a little funny for a minute or two after swallowing it. It also took her much longer to eat than normal. Should I be worried about this or have I just gotten lucky up until now never having it happen?

Sounds like the pinky burst when it got compressed after being folded over. I've seen it happen before. As long as she gets it down okay and doesn't seem to have any other problems, I'd say it's nothing to worry about.

I also wouldn't worry. All that matters is that she got it down okay. It sounds like the pinkie popped which is where the blood would have come from. If eating it sideways would not have worked then she would not have done it.

That's what I figured but I think my wife made it sound worse than it was tbh. Thanks guys. :D

If she was able to bend it and swallow it side ways, I'd say it's time to up the size of the meal quite a bit.

She's only (maybe) three months and the pinkies leave a small bulge still. I will look into stepping it up though as she has gained quite a bit of girth in the short time that she has been with us.

Nothing to be concerned about.
Regardless, done is done so... no point worrying.
I wouldn't be concerned if I were you though.
