Boaphiles racks

Austin's Mom
Hello! Well, its official - I'm addicted. All we did was go to get my son a snake on our trip to Florida. The pet shop had the most amazing collections of corns and we bought Angel a 1 yr old 'reverse' okeetee. That was 3 weeks ago...since then I've bought Kathy Love's new book, a book on corn genetics, looked at every website and posting I can find and now have 15 hatchlings on order....what have I done???!!! :eek1:
Well, enough about me...
I am going to order a rack system this weekend for the 'babies' and am leaning toward Boaphiles clear 30 shoe box (and also 15 sweater box rack...I LOVE the crystal clear boxes. The only downside is that these boxes are a bit smaller than the 'standard' shoe box, especially the height (12 x 6.75 x 3.75 vs 13.25 x 8.25 x 4.25) even the sweater boxes are only 3.75 high. I hoped others that have them or considered them migh give me their thoughts...or offer some alternatives. Many thanks!

Welcome to the forums (smile). You'll find a lot of great people and advice here. You did well by getting Kathy's book !

Corns aren't really "climbers", so height isn't a critical measurement. Hatchlings are quite comfortable in small containers, given room for a water bowl and a hide or two. The Boaphile container sizes you list seem very suitable for snakes thru their first 1 1/2-2 years. A pre-made rack should come with heating..either back or under container, make sure the one you're looking at does. :)

Corns are VERY addictive..lol! I went from zero to 25 in two years...with more hatchlings coming from orders and my own breeding this year. Space and keeping enough "feed" on hand are important considerations for you..as your interest in the hobby grows (smile).

The search function is your friend in the forums too ! Tons of good info can be found in all the sections here.

Best of luck and enjoy !

I recommend Snake Shacks by Casey and Darla. www.nsreptiles.com A++ customer service and a wonderful product! I have four (2 6qt for hatchling and 2 15qt for yearlings). Every time I've ordered I've RECEIVED my rack 4-7 days after I placed my order.

Darn! I meant to mention Casey's racks..lol very glad you did !

Two of my adult racks are from Casey...Outstanding person and top quality racks and incubators !

i have many large boaphile cages that we keep our boas in so i cant compare with the smaller sizes. but i do have MANY shoebox size racks that do the job very well made by different manufacturers. they are easy to clean when they are not being occupied and having the heat already installed is very convenient. wheels for easy manuverablility are KEY. in my opinion the expense of buying prebuilt racks are well worth it. they are usually made by snake breeders for snake breeders.

good luck and welcome to the forum

Hello,
I have boaphile sweater racks, and I love em! Yes, it's nice having those crystal clear tubs so you can look around at your animals, if they are out from under the paper, and see what's going on. However, in my experience, their customer service needs work! My last order of two racks from them took me TWO MONTHS to deliver, and I feel it was only my finally e-mailing them often, asking what's going on and such, in my opinion, if there was a problem, they should have gotten a hold of me to let me know there was going to be a hold up, rather than never getting a hold of me and leaving me wondering if I was ever going to get my racks! I'll be considering more racks in the future, but will go with the one discussed above. I have heard a lot of great things and when I asked for a quote the other day, I got a friendly reply within two hours! But yes, I highly recommend buying a rack system than trying to build one! Only cause I suppose I'm no carpenter! But plus I worry I won't set something up quite right and start a fire! So I'd go with the already made stuff any day for that reason alone. Good luck with whatever decision you do make.

Animal Plastics Rack

I bought an AP rack, the 7 adult or 14 juvi one. It is great , easy to assemble and when I need another, I will buy one of theirs. There customer service was fine. They were backlogged on racks so the wait was a little more than I wanted. I also looked at the Boa Phile and have a friend who has one. He did tell me that his babies could get out of his and has to keep a piece of card board across the top of each container. I have 2 babies in mine and they are unable to get out.

Just an FYI

I have to agree with two of the points made above on the boaphile racks, the customer service isn't great and I have had 2 escapes out of my boaphile rack, so if I buy another rack in the future it won't be from boaphile.

I know how you feel.. I bought my son one Amel in March and now we have 15 or something like that. I am losing count. I got my rack from www.boamaster.com. It was the largest, best quality that I could find, and extremely cheap. (Trust me I looked everywhere.) It is 8 level 28 qt box rack only 225.00 with cool engraved top and built in rodent defroster. He even walked me though setting up the heat tape and everything. I could not find a better price for something in this size and honestly the quality is unbelievable. Check out his website and give him a call he will make what ever you want at reasonable prices.
