Books

I love books, but a lot of mine are sitting around in boxes. My project for this weekend is to get some bookshelves set up, and the books on them.
I watch almost no TV,watch some movies sometime but love to read. I think it is sad that a lot of people kids and adults alike don't read as much as they used to.

Do you read a lot?

I read a lot. It's like an expensive addiction, honestly. I read at least one book a day, sometimes more when it's a day off or I don't have classes/homework.

I 'read' a lot. I go through around 3-5 books a week. Though I actually listen to them on books on tape while I work. So I'm usually listening to 6-8 hours a day. I love getting lost in a story.

I do actually read paper books too, I usually save my favorite authors to read in paper/typed form. Though I don't go through them as fast.

When I was younger I HATED reading. Honestly, I think school is what ruined reading for me. They told me what to read, how to read it, and then quizzed me on it. It just wasn't fun. It took me a while to get into reading for the fun of it, and now I love it.

I read less than I used to overall, but there are times where I'll sit down with a book and read for a whole day. I'm currently reading Neal Stephenson's new book Anathem, which is...interesting. I've also got Iain M. Banks' Excession queued up after that.

i read stuff that interests me. i spend a lot of time online, but not playing games like most kids my age or twittering. i dont even have a twitter account. but what i do is research. i just like learning, about anything really. but i read books a lot too. and reread them again cause i like them. but yes i love to read when i got the time. usually a couple hours at night before i hit the pillow.

I like to read, but have a huge stack of books that I've purchased/acquired but haven't started. I don't read nowhere near as much as I used to or should.

UNLESS you consider reading on a forum "reading". LOL.

I LOVE to read, and also read a book every day in the summer, and a book every few days in the school year when I have to grade papers...blech! I agree...expensive addiction. I'm a sci-fi/fantasy/science non-fiction girl myself. We should get some sort of book trade going!

Any particular authors in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Science category? I like Dennis McKiernan, Jennifer Roberson, Stephen R. Donaldson, James P. Hogan.

One of my other favorite genre's is Historical Fiction - Stephen Pressfield is one of my favs, but both Sharra's as well.

I'm mostly into thrillers, my favorite thrillers being the 'unreal' type I don't know the exact sub-genre name, I guess 'fantasy' and 'adventure' thrillers sounds right...authors like James Rollins, Dan Brown, Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston, Matthew Reilly.

Though I actually read pretty much any thriller genre...action, spy/conspiracy, crime/csi, etc...

I've read a couple historical-esque fiction thrillers recently and really enjoyed them. Oddly enough both ended up featuring Oliver Wendell Holmes as a main character (I didn't pick them out like that, just coincidence).

I read *some* scifi/fantasy type of books...but sometimes I'm a little bit daunted when there are like 20 books in a series. Anything by Tolkien is of course my favorite. I've also read 'Phantom' by Terry Goodkind recently and loved it...didn't know it was part of a huge series so now I want to start from the beginning if I can get my hands on them at the library. I also like the Halo series of books based on the video game.

I also like mysteries, I've read a lot of Agatha Christie, but have lots more to go with her.

Basically I'll read anything, fiction or non-fiction (I recommend 'The Ape and the Sushi Master' by Frans de Waal). Well, I'll read almost anything...I'm not fond of harlequin romance type books, blech.

I read quite a bit, if compared to my friends... but I can hardly say I read more than one or two books a month. I read mostly in English, as the translation to Hebrew usually leaves me really annoyed.

Authors... it's odd you didn't mention any one of my favorites :)
Stephen King- The Dark Tower series, Everything's eventual
Roger Zelazny- The Great Book of Amber
George R R Martin- Song of Ice and Fire series
Sean Stewert- Resurrection man

I'm an avid reader of just about anything and everything. I don't have or want cable TV or otherwise, I just pick up movies from the library.

I read the first few books of the Ice and Fire series, but it started taking too long between books.... LOL.

I'll admit that I don't read enough, but I do love to read. I can get lost in a book for hours!
My favorite book that I've read recently (well, within the past few years, I guess) is First They Killed My Father by Loung Ung. It's a story about the genocide in Cambodia in the late 70s and early 80s. It was a great read, and I couldn't put it down.
I usually only read non-fiction, so my choices are fairly limited. I just can't get in to the fiction books - I've never been able to, though.

My project for this weekend is to get some bookshelves set up, and the books on them.

The bookshelves got delivered yesterday afternoon, a lady on CL was selling IKEA shelves and I got a really nice buy on them. While I'm not a great fan of particle board and prefer solid wood furniture, these IKEA shelves are well made and look good. (I love CL)
There is enough room for my books, and also room to display stuff, and room for MORE books!!
