I was reading in my corn morph guide today about breeding projects. I can't imagine how exciting it is to discover a potential new morph/trait then work on proving it out.

I'm curious what breeding projects our board members have going on? I know there's got to be some cool stuff in the works. :cool:
 
I think some people like to keep their 'special' projects secret until they have hatchlings. I however am totally happy to be breeding for the first time this year, not anything new as far as morphs but I know they will be just as beautiful as their parents :D
 
IMO I don't think discovering the latest morph and having to prove it out would be very fun. Reptiles need years to grow and change, and to become mature enough to breed, which takes a few months for gravid time (IF the female becomes gravid), incubation, and getting babies grown.

Just my thoughts. I'd rather work with something I understand.

What I plan on doing in the future is getting a few tessera males and crossing those with females... *drool*
 
I'm not making any "new" morphs, but if I get really, really, really lucky I might hatch a hypo lavender bloodred stripe. But I don't even have eggs on the ground yet, so a lot could go wrong! In a different project, I have a 1:8 chance of hatching an avalanche stripe, and 19 fertile eggs. That would be very exciting for me!
 
I think the idea of finding something new is awesome, but the actual work may not be. Its take a while to properly prove something out.

Im not doing anything fancy schmancy, but if im lucky ill get some butter stripes, some other stripes, and some nifty project anerys. Because who doesnt love guessing whether or not their animal is dilute?

If I am extra lucky, I'll be hatching out some of the same.:) Parents look Hypo but I have not test bred them, yet, to prove out Hypo ... so, actually, I am not really counting the Hypo.:nope:;) At the very least end, if I am lucky, I'll get some Striped Plasmas out of the clutch ... I'd be happy with that! I have 23 eggs, from this pairing, although I think 3, maybe 4, eggs are infertile.
Also working on getting some Peppermints and truly hope that goes well. If not, I guess there is always next year. As of now, unless I get a second clutch, I only have two good eggs from this pairing. I'd be ~really~ excited to get Peppermints! Female looks great so I am keeping fingers crossed for that second clutch.
Have some other morphs I am hoping to hatch out, as well, plus some others that will be het for some good things.
Although next year, or the year after, may be a different story ... This year, I have nothing going on that hasn't been produced already. Well, except that I am working on one project which takes generations to accomplish (and am not sure if it has been accomplished yet, by someone else, but I haven't seen any).
Most of my breedings are in my forum (I think I have 13 listed).
As for producing a new morph, I'd think it to be ~very~ exciting to do so ... although the work/time involved can/could be "tedious".;)

Edit: Just looked and I have 14 of my breedings listed.

I might try to produce some peaches in the following years but aside from that I think I will stick to the basics :p however the idea of creating something new is wonderful! I would love it if I could, which I guess I could, but I would need the right snake to go with a current one annnnd well its hard to find exactly what you are looking for sometimes :D
 
well,
this is my first year of breeding...went with the basic as one other person stated in the above post. expecting Charcoals,Ultramel Charcoals,And Blizzards. Next year, the planned Breedings are as follows:
lava het caramel X Same (lava & topaz expected)
And the rest is secret! sorry.... :)
 
Those all sound like some really cool projects. I especially like that little wild caught female. Any clue on what her morph is or are you thinking it is something new? Could she have been an escaped pet do you think?

This is my first year trying to breed corns too. I got a late start so will be lucky if I get a good clutch. My 8 yr old Okeetee female laid six slugs last month without ever having been bred. I'm trying to match her with a reverse Okeetee male without success so far. In addition to producing some Okeetee's this breeding would test her for amel since I have no idea what's behind her.

My goal is to work with lavs and charcoals but I won't have any old enough to breed until maybe next year, but probably not until the year after that (unless I break down and buy some older females and we all know stuff like that NEVER happens lol). I'm getting a charcoal het lav female this weekend and will be at the reptile expo which is a very dangerous place.

Aside from having some really oddball thing pop up in a clutch, I think the next best thing would have an unexpected morph pop up.

Can't wait to see all the baby pics soon to come.

I was never one to keep a secret to long...My ultimate goal is striped topaz & striped/motley diamonds....with a side project to see if the yellowing in the anery A & B's is an on/off gene.

2nd: how far off am i?? LOL Now thats the secret..
depends...I'm gonna go Hunting to see if i can't get Something to help me along. If nothing is found..and I have to do it the HARD way....about 6 years.(2 gen.)
