Butter Beans

Thankfully we never had Lima or Butter Beans growing up, and never even tried them until moving to the East Coast... nasty.... The only thing we had as kids that we didn't like were cooked, slimy mushrooms that my sister and I would stick to the bottom of the table, or our chairs... It took our mom awhile to figure out why they would just randomly appear on the floor...

Yeah I wonder from time to time, if that's OK. I spose if everyone wants me to be more on topic, they'd ask. Or is that what you're doing?

I wouldn't worry. You're posting about general chit and it promotes chat, totally appropriate for this forum.

I agree. I think you're awesome, but I have to admit, the Butter Bean thread made me LOL! ;)

I think you're awesome too :santa:

If I go too far afield, just give me a curmudgeonly poke.
Seriously, there are many experts here on reptiles, and I'm not. I love critters, but I am not any kind of authority. I am just ordinary, and write about what I know. Like beans. You know the old saying 'You don't know beans?' Well, I know beans.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it :roflmao:

I love your random threads. Please don't stop posting them anytime soon! After all this is the GENERAL chitchat area. Post random threads to your little hearts desire!

I'm thinking after the holidays when I have more funds, I'm gonna get me one of them lil ole personal forums. That way all these random thoughts can be gathered together, sort of like one of those drawers in the kitchen where you put random stuff.

I plan to have a Grand Opening Party Thread and everyone is invited. It's gonna be a real get down thread too, and I'll need a volunteer Designated Reader to help out and ride herd on us so that we steer clear of the Law 'round here :dgrin:

Get Ready :roflmao:

Dang it!! I never go to those personal forums and I'll miss all your awesome random threads!. PLEASE DON'T DO IT!

I love both of them. We had lima beans at every major meal at my grandmother's house, such as Thanksgiving dinner. I guess I like them because of where I had them. Who knows?

On a side note, my mother used to call me Bean... like, as a nickname, when I was a kid. I never really tell anyone that, but there it is.

After all, it's not like going to a ho house or other place of ill repute....

Lucille, I will never forget you as the sweet lady who can make even the mundane charming.

Lucille, as is a childs job to do, I hated both. I picked and shelled and (in my youth) refused to eat butter beans as early as the Johnson administration..
But somewhere over the years my taste buds changed. Although, I have never daydreamed about either.
I like butter beans well enough,....but after I moved back to Baton Rouge (city of my birth) in 2001, I discovered the dish of lima beans cooked with whole pods of okra,...and cilantro(?) or dill(?). I would say something got bumped big time when that got added to my list of top ten vegetable dishes.

I wonder is that a southern thing, a rural-ish southern thing, or done everywhere. When I grew up, everybody who I knew had the 'random stuff drawer in the kitchen'. Lot's of important stuff was in there. Some even had a 'second most important stuff drawer'.

You just reminded me of a bean I haven't eaten for ages, borlotti beans! I shall have to get some.

FINALLY the point of the thread has been made. Maybe lima beans aren't evil. And maybe most people aren't evil. Maybe the difference is the way they are prepared?

The old nature/nurture argument, but who knows, maybe a little cilantro can save our eternal souls.....

We always called it the junk drawer, and at my friends house, we call it the drunk drawer because we'd find stuff in there that no one put in it, so we're always saying, "Were you drunk when you put the WII remote in here?"... "I didn't put it in there"... "Uh huuuuuh"....

all your fault. Lauren had to look for butterbeans at the store...they did not have any. There was much mashing of teeth.

;)
Glad to be a part.
The pleasure was mine.
Kind of like Emily Litella.

P.S. A little 'cilantro' (place whatever metaphorical tangible or intangible here that suits you) never hurt anything.
