Hay! Just joined the ranks of corn owners two weeks ago and have been living on here since then. My kids LOVE them.. ya them lol brought one home and went back 3 days later for there cage mate. I know its not terrably important what kind they are but it would be interesting to know the names. if you can tell. they are just over 4 months from what i was told. the first is pinky. my daughter loves his red eyes. pinky is very calm and friendly the kind that makes you want to umm get lots more! the second is brain. hes not so calm. not aggressive just flighty! wants to run! i handle him daily except for 24 hrs after feeding. hes better about being picked up but once he realizes im not going to eat him i guess lol he starts tring to run for it.. if anything its good excersize for him ? cant turn your eyes away from him thats for sure.

well im thrilled to be able to share here everyone is great and love all the pic's and info! thank you for helping me make my snakes happy :) ... i hope the photos show up im sorta fumbling with the site still :(

Pinkie appears to be a snow (maybe a coral snow it's color looks more pink than my snowflakes did at that age) but still a snow and brain looks like a butter to me. Beautiful babies. Where did you get them from? I know most the (reputable) breeders here in Oregon ;) but I know people get them from pet stores sometimes too.

i got them from petsmart err petco ? the one on airport way. you would not happen to know of a feeder breeder in portland that i can get my pinkies at cheaper them petco.? lol worth asking!

There's one or two rodent breeders (both live and f/t) who post ads on CL. I'd watch that. I see them in the Pets section when they post.

You might want to check the prices at All Heps Pets on McLoughlin, House of Reptiles on SW 68th Parkway, and The Tropical Hut on SE Division. I don't know how they compare to the Pet-Somethings, but they're worth a try :).

I think the first one is either a snow or an amel in shed, and the second looks like a butter. great petco find! Do you have them housed separately?

they were housed togather so i assumed it was ok to keep them togather. I do see back and forth info on it tho. they get along very well with each other. does this change as they get older ?

Snakes aren't like other animals. They don't "get along" so much as "vaguely tolerate" each other. The petstore houses them together because they need to make money, and part of that is fitting as many animals into as small an area as possible.

Hatchlings in particular have an increased risk of cannibalism. And usually the cannibal dies too.

Housing together can cause stress, and will prevent you from identifying problems quickly or easily. If one of them has odd feces how will you tell which one? If one of them regurges, how will you tell which one?

Also, as they get a little older, if you have a male and female (and no snake is PROVEN to be a female until it actually lays eggs) then they might mate early enough for the female to not be physically ready to make eggs which can cause health problem, maybe even egg binding, and can be fatal.

The *only* benefit to cohabbing belong to the owner of the snake. One tank, one heat pad. But you'll potentially spend far more in vet bills trying to fix your snakes if something does go wrong.

Overall, it's just a bad idea.

There is a reptile expo coming up in August. A lot of us go to the expo (some even vend there), and there is a vendor there who sells f/ts. It's a cheap way to get a lot of rodents bulk without even needing to pay for shipping. I generally use the Mouse Factory (online dealers are nice too if you have a large collection), but I like to stock up at the expo. Here's a link to give you all the info you need..

I also agree that these animals would be better housed separate. I don't want to get into a debate on the pros and cons here because there is just so much information already on this site, and Megan did a good job ahead of me. ;) I'll keep it simple and just recommend you separate them.

i handle him daily except for 24 hrs after feeding.

One last little nit picky thing, corns actually take about 48 hours to digest their food so it would be better if you didn't handle Brain for 2 days after he's eaten instead of 1.

I agree with the assessment that you have a Snow and a Butter. Pretty little snakes, and cleaver names as well! I remember watching Pinky and the Brain when I was a kid. Good luck with them and welcome to the forum. There is so much information here.

thank you so much for your post guys! Ill start shopping around for another tank for one of them. I would hate to lose one of them! I still have my heat lamps that i got from my starter kit befor i got the under the tank heater so im set.

sadly the expo is out of my "buss" range lol im a carless person liven on the busses! It's not to bad tell something like this comes along :(
