Caramel Bloodred or...??

Em Wright

The Ice Queen
All of these babies are from the same clutch which came from a pairing of a Bloodred het Butter Stripe with a Bloodred het Butter Stripe.

These were labeled as Caramel Bloodreds because there are no other known genetics in the parents. However, after their second shed they really look nothing like their Caramel Bloodred siblings.

(At this point I apologize for the blurry photos. I did this photoshoot twice and both times all the pictures came out blurry. I'm not sure why, I think there might be something wrong with my camera.)

Thoughts, opinions? I'm feeding tonight so I will try again to take some better photos of 001 and 007. Any insight is appreciated!

They are anery bloods, or granites. They could be homozygous caramel as anery A masks it. But no way they are straight caramel bloods.

I'd have to agree with Blue apple there ^^. Also, great looking corns!

I could have sworn 001 was a Caramel Bloodred after her first shed. She had the brown, but was still very dark. Then she shed again and came out looking like that!

Thanks Lyion, I like to think they're great, but I'm horribly biased! ;)

What do you guys think of Charcoal? 001 does kind of look Pewter-ish to me.

I'd say 001 is a charcoal ^^. While I've never breed, my uncle has been for years. Charcoals are his favorites, and it appears that to be one.

I'll try to get a hold of Rich Hume but it looks like there is anery in the mix, also.
Was there any amels in the clutch, I don't remember what the count was?
John

Nope, not charcoal. Charcoals have super dark irises, that make their eyes appear solid black as hatchlings.

I've attached a picture of a caramel pewter I hatched last week. Notice how jet black his eyes appear.

John, we had three Fire Stripes hatch and one Fire. I know that at least one of the Fire Stripes (005) came from the same clutch as all the babies mentioned in this thread.

So it would seem the parents are actually het for Anery Butter Stripe. Or at least one of the females and the father. The second clutch didn't have any of these "Anery" babies pop up.

Is it possible one of the females had retained sperm?

EDIT:

Matthew, congrats on that stunning baby! I see what you mean. I checked the pictures I took of Moya, my Pewter, and her eyes are quite dark as well.

Send them my way (I hope they're a pair) and I'll put them in my anery and caramel Upper Keys program to determine their genetics. ;)

They do look like granites and not caramel bloods or pewters. Aren't hidden hets fun?!
