Chalice and Longinus

These kids turned one month old yesterday, so i decided to snap some pics. I have never been so impressed with a baby, let alone 2 babies, that i didnt produce myself.

Im still not sure exactly what they are. Both look like ultramels, or hypos with nice borders and both are het lavender. Both have ruby pupils and orange irises(is this a real word? that cant be right) They came from a creamsicle x lav pairing.

They have both eaten 5 times now, with tomorrow being feed 6, though i suspect Longinus will refuse as he is turning opaque.

Longinus then Chalice.

WOW, I would say at least ultramel. I had a female ultramel that was almost that red. That second one is just stunning to say the least!

They appear to be hypo rootbeers, if one of the parents was a creamsicle. That means they are hybrids.

Thanks for the comments, everyone!

I am very well aware of them being hybrids, thank you. These will NEVER touch the rest of my collection. Im a purist at heart. However, thanks to a google image search, i can comfortably say that they look nothing like rootbeers.

Except that the "normal" offspring of a creamsicle parent *are* rootbeers. you asked for ID, I stated what they are and explained why. These animals have more corn than emoryi blood, which is why they don't look like a first-gen rootbeer.

Yes yes. Percentages this and that... And i dont know the percentage of the sires blood either. Im just glad that they look like corn snakes. And my dismissal of the rootbeer comment is because rootbeers, by definition, are brown. Thankfully, these are not.

Im eager to see what they do in the future.

They are definitely gorgeous... but rootbeers aren't brown by definition. They're defined by parentage. Otherwise those creamsicles in the world that look like corn snake amels would cease to be called that... but they aren't.

So the first person to make and name them didnt tag them after a brown drink because they are brown? Makes you wonder what goes on in some peoples heads.

The 50/50s are brown, yes.

How else do you explain bright red creamsicles? They're still creams because of their *ancestry*.

The amel gene influence. Sure, most of them are yellow on yellow with some white, but the right amel parentage could produce some nice reds.

What it boils down to is that they may be "rootbeers", but by lineage only. They do not look at all like rootbeers. In fact, if i had said, "Hey, look at my hypos or ultramels!", no one would have said, "Hmmmmm. They look like rootbeers to me." In fact, i doubt anyone would have suggested hybrid at all. They look like corn snakes. And yes, i will represent them honestly, including when i have offspring from them.
