Christmas hypo

Has it been 100% proven that christmas sits on the hypo locus?

If so, is it known how christmas reacts with hypo and strawberry (ie. recessive, codom or dominant?)

According to the 2011 Cornsnake Morph Guide, it has been proven that the Christmas gene sits at the hypo A locus. As for how it works, what I can infer from what is written in the guide, it acts similarly to strawberry in that the phenotype varies with what gene it is expressed with. I'm not sure if it has any affect when only het with wild type so I would strictly call it recessive at this time.

I've bred my Christmas hypo to a granite, to give het Christmas/anery/diffused offspring, and also with a Love okeetee. I plan to breed him to a diffused het amel next year

Yep, and under the microscope the pigment cells look different too. This is my Christmas hypo, Lola

No worries. I was over the moon Lola got 'in the vivarium'. His offspring are colouring up nicely too and hopefully next year I'll finally have Christmas bloods to show you!

how do you mean 'getting out of hand'?

I think it can only be a good thing that people who know what they are doing are studying things like this closely to identify whether similar phenotypes are alleles of known types or completely separate. It helps greatly for people like myself who want to understand these things and the hobby as a whole so we can move forward with the new knowledge.

I agree it can seem all very confusing at times

Rich used to complain about working with hypo's, it's kind of become a running joke with some folks working with them now :crazy02:

My point exactly chris68. More power to those of you working with all the different forms of hypo. I have several projects going myself. When those eggs hatch it can leave you scratching your head.

That's why I stuck with mainly lava and sunkissed....much easier to tell apart.
