Christmas Tree Pass, Cal-Nev-Ari Area

This was one of our more recent hikes, a few weeks back. This will be one of the more memorable hikes for me. The weather was wet and foggy, very un-desert like. Everyone was trying to talk us out of going due to the weather, and I was a bit sick. I am so glad that I am stubborn and never listen to anyone. It just felt amazing to be out in this, to experience it all. Even the sound of the rain falling on the sand was beautiful. In that moment, I thought If I would've stayed home, I wouldve never experienced this sound. Its moments like these that make me realize I exist. This is what I live for.

Ferns, yes there are ferns in the desert. And they are quite common..

I scraped my arm trying to get up on this huge rock, all because I had to take a picture of the puddle on top of it...

Then the fog turns to rain. Right before this, me and another hiker decided to take the difficult route on the slippery rock. It was a bit dangerous and there was a part that he had to help me across and I almost fell.. But it was fun.. If I would've known that route was so bad, I wouldnt have taken it, but you don't know till your up there.. I always seem to get into these situations. LOL
Can you see the skull looking pattern on the rock?

And one more from inside the dry cave :)

Thanks for the pictures, Steph. I've never visited your area, I've always wanted to, pictures of places like this is why. I'm from piedmont forests. I'm not used to that terrain, the plants, it seems "exotic" to me.

I have never been to your area either, so your plants would be new to me :).. I really do miss the green-ness sometimes. I was born and lived in Michigan till I was 8, then we came here. I have been to Portland Oregon 3 times and I was so in love with that place.. And Cali, omg its soo green and beautiful there.. I do miss green, but the desert is amazing. The way things have adapted to survive here. I am in the process of learning all the native plants and herps.. After that, guess I will have to move so I can do it again.. LOL
thanks Guys..

Thanks guys.. :) We go every sunday to a different place, but this day was just so perfect.
Carol, I wish I could escape forever to one of these places :)
