cleaning the tank.

I haven't heard of it being bad, and as long as you rinse the tank thoroughly, I don't think there should be a problem.
 
I read somewhere that Lysol products are bad for snakes.

I guess it's the pine "extract" or whatever. Same reason pine bedding is bad for snakes. Aromatic compounds.

I would look for something unscented.
 
hmmmmm Have you read what the back of the lysol wipes says?? Even for human use like on tables and such, you are supposed to make sure to clean the area After useing the wipes and that is for ppl... I would deem that unsafe, sorry. Its a great idea and I wish that someone would come out with a wipe that was safe to use around reptiles and other animals. I, myself, prefer to use nolvasan but I also do use the 1/10 bleach solution. With the nolvasan, it is abit pricey but it lasts a Very long time and you do rinse afterwards but it is abit more animals friendly than bleach. 1/10 bleach works as well but you Reallyyyyyy need to rinse and rinse and rinse after useing it. :)
 
I'm not sure for snakes, but I know Lysol type products are toxic to cats.
 
White vinegar/water is also a great cleaning product just rinse well afterwards and I just use good old anti-bacterial soap and rinse well..Pinesol is the one that I've read that is really bad but cant imagine lysol would be much better..I have birds as well and we only clean their cage with vinegar and the antibacterial:)
 
I use an old baby wipe container washed out with antibacterial soap and rinsed well. I fold up a roll of papertowels or use plain napkins and put then in and then use a mixture of alcohol and water. Pour it in and the napkins soak it all up and then I use them from the container to wipe down the tank and all the hides and plants and then rinse well w/ Hot water.
 
I use the "Chlorox" anywhere spray or whatever it's called. The one that's supposed to be ok sprayed on pacifiers as long as you let it dry. I would definitely adhere to letting it air dry. And it's still a good idea to give it all a wipe with a damp cloth afterwards :)
 
Hmm...when cleaning the cage I do this method..don't know if it's the best one..but it has worked so far...

1. Empty out viv of all decor and furniture letting it soak in hot water while I clean the tank.

2. Empty out the substrate and rinse the tank 3 times with hot water

3. Wipe the tank with Jurrasi-Wipes

4. Rinse the tank in hot water one more time

5. Spray "Zoo-Med Wipeout 1" drenching the tank, wait 5 minutes, dry with paper towl, wait 10 minutes, start putting everything back in the tank..

That is my cleaning procedure...I don't use any home chemicals...don't know if that helps anyone but just thought I would throw my ideas in..heh..
 
I don't like that Wipeout 1 stuff. Unless you scrub it off *really* well, you end up with a thin green residue on the glass that you don't really notice unless you hold a white piece of paper against the glass. And I'm always afraid that if I scrub too hard, I'll stress the glass and either crack it or force the glue at the joints to come apart.
 
hmm...odd...I've never had this problem...I always wipe it clean after 5 minutes and the tank comes so clear that it almost looks like there is no glass there..I dunno...::shrugs:: I don't use it for the cleanliness I basiclly use it to kill any bad germs for the safety of the snake and myself..hehehe :grin01:
