I picked him up this Wednesday, yea he is brand new :D . I figured while doing our first feeding since getting him I would take the opportunity to get some better pictures of him. Its a bummer not being able to handle him otherwise for the next 2 weeks. :( I've wanted a larger snake for a while and this should do the trick. We are looking at between 7-10 feet and 30-35 lbs when he hits the peak in a few years. I have him in a 90 gallon tank for the time being and will build a large viv for him to move into as he grows. (this will give me an excuse to get another when I have an open tank laying about. I was going to put a Northern Water Snake in the 90 before I decided on him. So that might be what ultimately end up calling it home. I'm still looking around though.. I still want so many others.. possibly a Rosey Boa or a Kenyan Sand for a smaller Boa. But I still want to get a MBK and an eye lash viper or african bush viper.

Finally.. out just to be handled and for a photo shoot

OK... here the (temporarily) small guy is!

Optimus is a sweetheart, though. I'm pretty enamored after handling him tonight. He essentially just anchored his tail on one of my fingers and explored my hand and the surrounding area and then back to lay contently.

Very pretty guy youhave there! I agree with the "you cant have just one" comment- we had one boa for a few months (was my bf's- i wasnt too sure about her for a while) but shes grown into such a gorgeous sweetheart- now we have 4 boas - the last three collected over the summer :D

cant wait to see pics of him as he grows, its so awesome watching a boa grow :)

Well Optimus bit me for the first time tonight during feeding. After the first crawler.. he was really on the prowl. As I went to present crawler #2.. he went for his strike and nailed me the index and middle knuckles... fast lil bugger. It definitely was just out of prey drive and wasn't anything defensive related. Didn't draw much blood (not quiet up to the TSB bites yet) but still stung a bit.

TELL ME you have a picture for "Bite Club"!!! LOL. Glad it wasn't too bad. Its just that sometimes some of us like to see BLOOD! :poke: I hope he tames down soon!

Nah it wasn't enough to be an honorable bite club entry. I wish I had some pictures from Shakalu's bites... a few have left perfect patters of her mouth, dripping with blood. To bad it's only for snake bites... i've got some dog bites that have opened my arms and legs to the bone. One German Shepherd got me behind the knee once and you could see my tendons move as I walked... another (from one of our own) got my hand and dislocated my knuckle and tore my hand open to the point my knuckle was out of the skin... :( Those are the rough days of dog training. My bite club list for that... long, painful, but some good scars and stories.

Well Scarlett bit me today, too! Except she just struck, realized I wasn't a pink and let go. No blood, no marks. =] She's so sweet. She even allowed me to rub her chin for a few seconds after that before she decided to start slithering away.

LOL. I was just thinking about feeding my LTR tonight... MIGHT be a "Bite Club" moment! :)

You know... that's one of the reasons I'm more terrified of pets of the 4 legged nature. They're more likely to really hurt you with a bite than our non-venomous, slithery friends. Got bitten by a hamster once... I've NEVER forgiven all of hamster-dom for that bite. LOL.
