Cool side too hot?

Hey guys,

I just moved and my house stays around 80 degrees inside most days, probably drops a bit at night.. I just unplugged the under tank heater and found my snake lounging in her "tree". She seems okay, but I wonder if it is too hot?

Any suggestions?

Ya... that's a bit roasty I'd say.
How do YOU even stand that!? :p
Not sure what to suggest for your snake though. I would think s/he's be ok at 80F for a bit, but normally the cool side would be close(r) to 70F... with the hot spot around 85F.
I would at least try putting a fan around/over the vive and see how that cools it down, if an open window or AC is not an option.

I actually did open my window, dropped it to about 77 on the glass (under substrate). I wonder if it's warmer on the aspen.. It's FL so im quite used to it. I put more cold water in the bowl.. maybe deni will bathe to regulate. It's not my house and we are trying to save on electric.. I don't think it's reasonable to expect my roommates/landlords to permanently turn the whole house down ten degrees for my snake.. I may need to look into some fans.. Anyone know if there are any tank-mountable fans, or if that would even help?

Fair enough. 3 degrees is better than nothing :)
Also, Wal-Mart has adjustable tall fans for $15-$20.

That would be a neat idea, actually. Get a PC fan(with LED's in it if you want effect). But make it an exhaust. Have it pulling hot air out. Not sure if blowing cold air in is good for them.

You don't want to have a fan blowing into the viv, it will drive the humidity down way too much and cause possible shedding problems. Having a ceiling fan blowing will circulate the air, or just a room fan, but don't point it directly into the viv.

What about my idea? Pulling warm air out? I have no intentions on doing it or anything. Just good to know in the future if I move to a warmer climate. Ohio is pretty moderate. Plus my house is 72° year round lol. I pretty much know excatly what my eletric bill is going to be every month.

That's what it's like in my house from April till October- if not warmer. I set the UTHs at 85, and if heat isn't needed, they don't kick on, and if it cools off at night, the snakes still have a warm area.

In the summer I had a standing fan close to the vive, overtop of it (not blowing into it), circulating, to keep the warm arm moving. It worked quite well actually, and had no effect on the humidity. :)

So nanci do you think its fine? Weather should be cooling in a few weeks here. I just want to know if my snake will be alright at these temps. I dont want to lower humidity at all.

I've seen this done one some peoples vivs. As intake and exhaust. Also used in conjunction with home made humidifiers. Actually, when I first got into snakes I was like "damn, I could trick this viv out all sorts of pc mods like, get some blue leds, some fans, a humidifier, Corsair eat your heart out!"

I grew up in corn snake country, and we have 100+ degree days. Obviously that's uncomfortably hot (for all of us), but they survive. I too am late to run my A/C and keep the thermostats running 24/7. The important thing is to have an accurate thermometer.
