Copperhead finally gets his Chance

I just checked on the eggs, and they look much better. The moss is damp but not wet at all. There is some condensation on the sides of the tub, but I think that that is unavoidable. None of the condensation is touching the eggs.

The eggs.. nice and plump!

Here's a series that shows how the box is set up.

First we have the eggs.. nestled in damp but not wet moss.

There is a layer of moss on top of the eggs

On top of the moss two damp paper towels

And here's the tub. As I mentioned before, none of the condensation is even close to the eggs. I could wipe it off, but it would just reform again I think.

What do you guys think.. everything look okay?

It looks ok, the only thing I would change is getting the eggs off of the bottom with rack or perlite. I would also loose the paper towels. It needs to be damp but with a little air flow around the eggs.
They look much better than first laid.
congrats
John

John, there is a thick layer of damp vermiculite under the moss. Does that help? Also, I added the paper towels due to someone's suggestion in a thread I was reading about various set ups. I can take them out though if you advise against it.

Thanks for the response! Your girl did real well.

That sounds perfect to me, good luck.

Well, Lux double clutched. I didn't pair her up with Copperhead again, but I left her laybox in with her for awhile just in case, and I'm glad I did.

I found 10 more eggs in with Lux, 7 of them look okay, and 3 of them are obviously slugs.

I'm really not sure how good these eggs are, they are smaller than the ones she previously hatched, and they don't look as even, but I'm hoping that they will even out as the other did in time. I figured I might as well throw them in with the good eggs just in case. The slugs are there for the photo, I removed them afterward.

On a good note though, the good eggs are looking fine (I think). I candled them and they have veins!!! They are kind of starred, but other than that I think they look okay. What do you guys think? I've been spraying the moss to dampen it (not the eggs) to keep the humidity okay.

So pretty!!! It reminds me of the Land Before Time. I might have to name the first born "Little Foot".

Some of the places on the shell seem inconsistent in thickness, but I've read that stars happen sometimes. I don't know if it's because they are my first eggs or what, but I am in love with them!

The uneven thickness is just odd calcification in the shells. They should hatch just fine. And the second 7 look pretty good too. I hope they all hatch for you.

Yea, I just went back and compared the first pictures I took of my eggs to the pictures I took yesterday. WOW, what a difference! The new 7 actually look better than the originals did when they first hatched.

It's crazy to go back and compare the first few pictures, and even the pictures I took after they had "plumped up" to the pictures now. The eggs are obviously bigger, and that makes me so excited!!!

I can't waitttttt!!!! And hey, I'll finally have a reason to figure out how to ship that Rorschach print to you... along with perhaps an extra surprise! :noevil:

By my count your first clutch is at 50 days today. Depending on your cooking temps, you could have pippies soon.

Congrats on the second clutch! Hope to see pippies soon!

Thanks, I'm so excited!! Hey, looks like the next time a show comes around our parts I might actually be able to split a table with you finally!

Yup, I have the 23rd marked as day 60 for these guys, so hopefully I'll be seeing noses soon!! Eik!! I'm already starting to check them more frequently than what is probably necessary. I guess I'll have to busy myself with school or something to distract myself... eik!

I guess we can do the August Wilsonville one. Maybe I can figure out a better way to rig up the darn banner by then as well, lol

Congrats on the second Clutch !!:dancer:

Rick, Copperhead is not related to your buttercreams.:)

hahaha, we'll have to bring lots of extra tape and weights! We should procure some kind of kid repelant as well... :bird: just kidding! Kind of ;)

If Copperhead was related to the Butter Creams then the mystery would be a lot less mysterious.

Hopefully the next time I update this thread it will be with pictures of pippies!!! :dancer:

I just saw this thread. Those snakes are beautiful! Good luck on the babies. I cant wait to see the little pippies!
