corn snake head starting to go rather dark and has a scale (had) sticking up on her head, (it looks like it fell off) and now she has her normal scale colour where that scale use to be.. :/ i will try and get a pic soon. she is just a fidgit bum LOL.. oh.. she is coming up for a shed soon.. but i didnt think her whole head would start going as dark as its going.. she looks dirty almost.. (charcoal)

Let me preface this by staing that I'm no expert either but I've had/have
many snakes.
I have a Four foot male normal that escaped in our house and when we got him back over Two months later he started going dark.
I mean really dark. he remained in his hide for almost Two weeks then
had a great shed.
Is it possible that your snake shed a piece of dried skin and not an actual scale.
At this point I don't think I would be concerned.

Good Luck!

you can see her flesh now :(

Do you have a herp vet close? I would imagine if it's an open wound you should have it treated before you are dealing with a very bad infection. I've read some people treat wounds with polysporin and such, but until you know the cause of the injury (If it is one) you really won't know how to treat it properly.

Best wishes!

yeah she has just shed but still has a dark head and a patch on her head.. ill try get a better picture but as we all know they are wiggle buts LOL :) i just hope she is ok

I can see what you're talking about, I rescued a wild black rat yearling from my neighbors house with the same scabby looking bump on its head. I kept it for a little while and it ate and lived fine. Not very helpful I know but I don't think it's something terrible. Probably will heal with a few sheds.

About a week. She shed lastnight (a bad shed) and still has shed over that area on her head so I'm soaking her in a tub w/ a cloth in room temp water :) I hope this works as she is so patience!

its not as bad but now shes shed she looks much better.. i have soaked some que tips in water and started dabbing the area very softly. and then let her slither through a damp cloth a few times :)

You have a lovely snake. I see the area of which you speak. I have depth perception issues so sometimes its hard for me to know what I am really looking at, so thats why I am asking. Is that area on her head indented? To me it looks like it could be so. If it is, maybe she got her head stuck somewhere, somehow? She did look better after her spa treatment :) Good luck with her, and I hope she continues to recover.

thank you all guys she has fully recovered :) i just continued to bath her in repti-boost :) and she is all better for her first birthday tomorrow :D hehe :) x
