"Critter Cage" Close Call;; Very Lucky!

I get up this morning, and after an hour or so of being awake, I look over at Ira's tank to discover that the screen has fallen in.
Leaving a huge hole in the corner of the tank
(The tank that I just bought at the end of December, that ticks me off)
So of course I start panicking, suddenly very aware that I've tromped all over my bedroom that has stuff all over the floor and if she was under any of said stuff, she'd be a very skooshed snake.
Luckily, she was under her warm hide -sigh of relief-

Has anyone else ever had this problem with the Critter Cage tanks with the sliding locking screen lid? My friend's fell apart a year after she bought it, but less than a month after purchase seems like... Failage.

I have eight of them in use- I've never had a problem. I'd ask the store to replace it.

If you bought it in December I would ask the store to replace it or "return the tank". Most stores have a 30-90 day return policy. I have 3 critter cages. I also have cats. My 40 gallon has never caved in even with the cats jumping up on it (they get a squirt bottle to the face if I can catch them ). My 10 gallon had the corner cave in from the cats. It currently is not in use, but I haven't had time to fix it. After that happened, I now put "lighting diffuser" or "Eggcrate" over the snake tanks. You can buy it in Home Depot or Lowes in the flourescent lighting section. It comes in a 2 foot by 4 foot rectangle, it's awhite plastic 1/4 inch grid.

You can easily cut it with a pair of wire cutters or scissors if you work at it. I cut a section to fit over my tanks.

Is that diffuser made of plastic? I like that idea, but I have black lights that sit on the tops of my tanks and I'm wondering if it would melt from the heat.

How hot do the blacklights get? They are florescents aren't they? The lightiting diffuser is made to sit 3-5 inches below lights so I think it wouldn't melt.

they're not fluorescent, but they don't get as hot as a regular bulb either.

I'll have to check it out, I always worry that my cat might jump onto one of the tanks, even though he hasn't yet.

I know folks who keep rattlers in them. I've never had a problem.

I am like many here who have many critter keepers and they are fantastic.
The way you wrote this is that the screen has fallen in?? do you mean that the frame was still clicked in its spot and the screen popped out?
The question I have is, did you lay anything on top or have you ever?
This will damage the top, no matter how well its crafted.
They way you describe your floor is that is a mess.. could this cage been damaged due to lack of proper care for it?
Like I stated these cages just don't fall apart that easily. They are sturdy cages, and its one reason why i recommend them for a display cage for people.
To verify, this is the cage?
