Damned snake-haters!!!

Lol. I know! That's so weird. They just don't like to accept reality. Someone has to go and kill the animal for them to eat meat. It's not like we do it for fun but because we have to.

spitfire..

precisely! my mom goes on at me about me killing(i use co2) mice for my snake, incurring bad karma and all i think. Then i suggested why is it that she isnt vegetarian. And..horrors of horrors , she said : It's doesnt count if you dont kill the animal yourself!
?? so people that eat sharksfin arent indirectly responsible for the death of so many sharks? ( sorry if any of you eat that here..im just trying to make an example that i feel strongly about)? So you are excused and dont get any of the blame if you ask someone to murder another? Cause u didnt do it yourself?
Actually i could get frozen prekilled mice from the nearby petstore on request, but their method of killing the mice is to just throw them in the freezer. Alive! Despite all my requests that they kill the mice humanely. That was when i got my first( and therefore last) batch from them. It would be much more convinient, and far less traumatising ( and i wouldnt have to struggle against the urge to adopt those mice that are meant for my snake =P ), to just keep getting the frozen mice from them but hey : less guilt of not killing the mice urself vs guilt of knowing they died a very painful death indirectly caused by u. I'll kill my own mice anytime.

Actually im not trying to justify our killings of mice/rats. Who knows, it just might be wrong after all when we "float away to that great big upstairs" ( sorry but i dont want to bring religion into this :D ) ;all we can say in our defence is that it's neccessary, we try to make it as humane as possible out of respect for the lives of the tiny creatures our snakes devour. Which is alot more than i can say for the animals WE consume, which alot aren't humanely slaughered.

Phew, sorry for the rant. Just bothered by people's close-mindedness and stubborness. :angry01:

Well, I've been "lurking" on this site for quite awhile now...might as well get a move on and finally post something. :)
My mother was one of those "Snakes are evil, and always will be!" people for the longest time. I managed to convince her that maybe a small snake wasn't so bad (when I said "small," apparently she was thinking about one foot....boy, was she a bit shocked when I brought a box home and removed a full-grown corn!:D), and wonder of wonders, she now finds them positively fascinating. She watches them, pets them (odd, I know, but apparently most people are just used to the idea that all pets should be...pet), talks to them, and holds them for short periods. She even agrees with me that the snakes truly have little "personalities" (one is slightly insane when brought out, one is calm as a old canine, and one is simply friendly). In other words, I think that if only people would take the time to really listen about reptiles and put aside their fear for a few minutes, they would see that snakes and lizards and other "creepy-crawlers" aren't so terrible, after all.
Oh, and as for hunting...I'm against it, but then again, I'm a vegetarian. Personally, I have less respect for those who whine about adorable deer and large-eyed seal pups while chowing down on cow flesh than those who treat ALL animals the same way, even if that means killing them.
Happy to be a veggie-eating, snake-owning, horse-riding user of cosmetics not tested on animals. ;)

Welcome Legato-Miko. I'm an occasional reader/poster here who lives right down the road from you in Lititz, PA.

Thanks for the welcome! And it's nice to know that there is someone in PA (besides me and the wonderful shop owner who supplied me with my first two babies) who adores snakes :)

Really the way you are representing yourself and the snake world on here does not help. How about cut the bad language and try for a more positive way to enlighten the world on the snakes.

...and ya know...NOT bringing up a 7 year old thread might be a start as well. Right Bob?

Nanci zapped him/her before I got a chance....his/her multiple infractions on multiple old threads did not work well for his/her membership. So much for being "cool" :sidestep:
