Dante -- '06 Doberman Progression

jlindp

Ophidiophile.
This is my favorite son, Dante. He had a hard start in life, but with lots of love and trips to the vet, I do believe he's turned into a fine young man. He certainly does have his brat moments, but my life would be so incomplete without him. So, y'all wouldn't mind, I'd like to show some of my favorite pictures of my "boogabear" from over the years.

I decided he would be a graduation gift to myself. Took him home June 23rd, 2006.

Severely underweight and riddled with parasites, Dante was often mistaken for a dachshund puppy before his ears were docked.

Thanks for looking!

Lovely! I love love love dobies. Had them all my life. My parents still have two. Although I am not a big believer in cropping ears unless you show, and my parents dogs are all floppy. They almost always have at least one dobie from a shelter. It's so sad how often these dogs end up in a yard on a chain and skinny. Ugh. I want to pick up another one day.

The breeder I got my dog from bred and showed 2 breeds....chinese crested's (my dog), and doberman's. Quite the combo! When I went to pick up my dog I was assaulted by a doberman puppy too, it was great fun.

Thanks! I don't know what I'd do without him! It saddens me that the media has consistently portrayed breeds like Dobies, Pitts, and Rotties as being these vicious man-killers. It's all in the way their raised! My Dante is probably one of the sweetest, shy dogs around. He's a great companion and I think would be a great protector if given the chance.

I've only heard good things about Dobermans from their owners! They were bred to serve people and are such a versatile breed :)

Is there a difference in the length of ear cropping? I've seen longer, tapered ears and the shorter, more (working?) type. I kinda of prefer the erect ears....your guy has certainly turned into a stunning boy!

Well, they certainly are a wonderful breed and I can never see a time in my life where I won't have Dobies. And thank you for the wonderful compliment!

And... yes! There are several types of crops. I personally don't like the natural look on Dobies. -shrug- They just don't look right to me, but I certainly understand why people don't get their dogs' ears cropped, too. For the types, there are three. Pet/Military (which is what Dante has), Medium, and Show.

Thanks, Robbie! "Cute" really does apply well to a dog that loves to give kisses and chases butterflies around the backyard!

That just sounds adorable. I've heard from a lot of dobie owners that they can actually be scared of their own shadows if not raised to be guard dogs. LOL

Yeah! He really is a big baby. But oh, does he have the scariest bark...as long as he's safely inside the house or car, lol! He did chase one of the lawn guys out of my backyard one time, so I know that big bad dog is in there somewhere!

I love that first picture of him! So precious...and what a great name!! My ex has a dobie, and she is such a doll. She likes to stand at the window and imitate fire trucks (sirens) when they go by... I don't think I'd hesitate to get one at some point.

Thanks! :} He's laying beside me on the couch right now and I can't believe he was ever that small! He weighed in at whopping 6 lbs. when I got him and now he's hefty 75! /

And I whole-heartedly recommend a Dobie to anyone who loves big dogs. :} Plus, they come in 4 (technically 5, big no no that one, though) delicious flavors!

What a sweet looking pup. I have to agree with Whippet about the docking, but I cannot and will not judge you for your decision. When I took my lab to obedience training, she lost to a dob...floppy eared, long tailed and all, but with the sweetest dispositon of any dog I've ever encountered. His name was Titan, but it should have been fluffy-hugglestein. ;)

He is so cute! I love dobies! One of my good friends has a dobie who is nice enough to share her couch with me when I come to visit LOL.

Growing up I always had dobes or rotties. One of my most memorable dogs was a dobie/rott mix... now he was a beast! His name was Bear, and he is still one of the most amazing dogs I have ever had. He was big, but he was a big lap dog :)

Thanks, you guys! I really do understand why some people don't crop/dock. Maybe I shouldn't have, since my baby ended up with one floppy ear, anyway? xD A lulz, Fluffy Hugglestein. I love it!

And awwwwmuhgawd. A Dobie/Rottie? A Roterman Pinweiler. Hmm, the name may need some work. x]

LOL I have no clue what they are called but I do love Roterman Pinweiler!!!! haha!

I think I have a picture of him around somewhere. If I find it, I will be sure to post it. This was before the age of digital so its a scanned image. He really was an impressive dog.

Maybe we'll start a trend?

And I would love to see him! I can only imagine a Dobie on steroids, lol!
