Did You Know...

Aozora

Blue Sky Reptiles
...that scorpions are native to the southeast USA and like to come into houses in the spring and the fall?

Because I did not know that until this guy literally scampered right up to me. I'm a huge arachnophobe, and good lord did he give me the heebie jeebies for a while. I trapped him in a plastic cup, and I kinda want to hold onto him for a little bit so I can see him eat. Although that will likely give me the heebie jeebies too...

We have little desert scorpions around here but I've never heard of people finding them in their homes, although I'm sure it probably happens every now and then.

They are all over down in Arizona...when I was little my dad was either stung by a scorpion or bitten by a black widow (not sure which) but he was sicker than sick for a long time...make sure to check your shoes and whatnot as they like to hide in there.

Well, I caught a moth and threw it into the cup for him... Heebie Jeebies accomplished. Ugh. I thought he would sting it and kill it, but he just ate it alive. Nope. Dislike scorpions even more now.

We have plenty of scorpions down here. Give me your address and I'll send you some!

No, but really, I lived in Arizona for about 10 years before I ever saw a scorpion, and now I get a lot of them every year, during the warm months. They do occasionally make their way into the house, but mostly I find them outside. Once the weather is consistently over 90, I usually go out a few nights a week with my blacklight and a pair of snake feeding tongs and catch all the ones I find.

Did you try putting yours under a blacklight? Here's a cup of bark scorpions I caught a few years ago, glowing under a blacklight:

I don't have a blacklight yet, but my dad is coming down to visit next week and I'm sure he'll want to try that experiment. I figure I can keep a native scorpion alive just fine for a week or so. I know he's a lot more active today after a meal and some water. Creeeeeeeps me ooooooout. You can keep all those bark scorpions....

Hypnoctopus and Aozora: You two deserve medals for not flipping out and moving out of state.

Hee hee hee!

I one time had a clogged tub drain and usually I would find a cricket in my tub when I went to take a shower. Well it started getting worse, like finding multiple crickets and earwigs. So when I finally cleaned it to get all the hair out of the drain, tons of crickets, earwigs, and a scorpion came out. They had been living inside the clog. Horrifying.

So now I am super diligent about not letting any hair go down the drain.

Oh God.... my worst nightmare,My sister's hair hair ALWAYS clogs the drain, & I'm the only one that ever digs it out :puke01:
She'll regret it when I move out!!!

One time my mom had a scorpion holding on to the bottom of her foot!

It was very scary! The scorpions we have over here are extremely dangerous and can put people in the hospital.
Thank god it was just holding on with it's claws!

A few weeks ago my boyfriend's mom almost stepped on one barefoot when we were at his cousin's Quinceanera. Some kids ended up crushing it because it wouldn't leave.

I think scorpions are awesome little creatures though. They remind of the warm winds and cool rock formations of the desert :)
