Gamaliel's Principle
In the present 'warm and cozy' post-election international climate, are we the United States, as traditional leader of the modern free world,...wise and resolute and made of sturdy enough stuff to tell effete, cowardly, and maniacal dictators like Ahmadinejad (Iran, denier of the Holocaust) and Gaddafi/Kadafi (Libya, sanctuary of terrorists)...to sit down and be quiet?
Metaphorically speaking......if and when the time comes?

I thought I've heart it all... being accused of slavery though, that's kind of new.
Meh, I really would rather -not- go into the Iranian issue, discussing it will result in naught but irritation on my part I fear.

I was listening to talk radio this morning. The guy was talking about what, really is the purpose of the UN these days? He said, if nothing else, it gives people a good look at leaders like Ahmadinejad and Kadafi so they can see the kind of whack jobs the US has to deal with.

I watched several news reports on their speeches. What scares me is that people, many people, follow these guys.

And why would the U.N. let Khadafi ramble on for 96 minutes, which is 6 times the normal time allowed to the speakers?

I don't mind giving idiots the time to speak... Kinda like giving someone rope to hang themselves with...

BUT, not at the expense of BILLIONS of US Taxpayer money. I LOVE the idea of the UN... but I really think it is broken.

The UN was never "fixed and working" to begin with though. It was always a masquerade, and was dictated by the strongest nations at the time...

I clicked excitedly, thinking you were posting an uber-cutie pin-up!
LOL, Janine,....I've been looking for all those things in a....person....for 46 years now. When I do find even a picture of it, you will be the first to see it. :p

Excellent points, Nanci and Fred. Yesterday I heard some talking head on TV talking about the UN as having been founded to prevent another world war...a very broad and general 'purpose'.
And I can think of at least half a dozen nut-jobs over the last 30 years, that given center stage and the spotlight, have done a marvelous job of outing themselves as the twisted lunatics they are...such that they can be purged from society.

Rich, on a good note, there were mobs of people of iranian descent demonstrating on the streets of New York, emphasizing that Ahmadinejad did not represent the majority of iranians (in Iran and abroad), and was the illegitimate product of a fraudulent election.

As for Kadafi, I'm hoping, like I alluded to above, he purged his thoughts and tongue and is now empty. I suppose folks conveniently forget he was once a sworn mortal enemy of the US in the 70-80's. Interesting that he would feel perfectly safe and at ease, at this moment in time, to 'strut and fret about the stage'. Hopefully he'll 'be heard no more'. Although I wonder who else feels bold and unfettered enough, at this moment in time, to start blustering 'sound and fury'.

Well, Oren, at least the UN has made a decent, albeit clumsy and poorly enforced, plan since 1948 to establish a homeland for Israelis and Jews who wished to move to a 'homeland'. And I am not being at all combative, by asking you to please correct my language if it is lame or falls short of an accurate, but very brief summary.
Note : Ahmadinejad's threats and ramblings regarding Israel pi$$ me off to the hilt.

"I have nothing but scorn for the notion of an Islamic bomb. There is no such thing as an Islamic bomb or a Christian bomb. Any such weapon is a means of terrorizing humanity, and we are against the manufacture and acquisition of nuclear weapons. This is in line with our definition of—and opposition to—terrorism."[67]

Interesting.

It's not -entirely- correct, as I understand and know it, it was the initial promise made in the "Balfour declaration" regarding the regime of Britain in Israel.
I honestly can't agree that it was the UN's doing... after the Second world war... the only one with any sort of genuine "power" was the United States... since we had your support, the others kind of followed suit.
Also the state in Israel was chaotic, the British soldiers couldn't possibly continue their occupation of Israel with such opposition as they had from both Jews and Arabs here.

Don't get me wrong- I am glad it happened, but I can't give the credit for it to the organization known as the UN.

You had our support, it seems that today (well yesterday), Barack Hussein Obama decided that we would no longer offer our support to one of the few stable democratic countries in the region.

I am sorry.

Thank you, Mike. I was wondering if and when someone would catch the original drift of my OP.
While the US is in a lovefest, patting ourselves on the back for how liberal we are........it is idiots like Ahmadinejad (Iran) and Kim Jong-il (North Korea) who will only get bolder and bolder and bolder.

Well here is something to think about. Have you noticed that the handicapped signs are the exact color of blue as the helmets worn by the UN? That is so when the New World Order takes over they will have all the best parking spots.

On a serious note, Oren, I can not imagine what it must be like for you. The hatred that some people in your part of the world harbor is just unimaginable for me. Sadly I don’t see an easy solution. That kind of hatred is not going to go away or be dissuaded. That kind of hatred needs to be shot.

Him and Q/K/Gadaffi should not have been allowed to step onto American soil.

Wade, I put it "nicer" but I agree, some of those people who have been allowed to step on our soil, should not be allowed to leave, alive.

Global Warming is a cause not a phenomenon. People can’t rally behind your cause if you don’t have a cause. Do you know how many millions of dollars have been donated by well meaning people to help “in the battle against global warming”? Lady Bird Johnson started the campaign against litterbugs. Who is going to get excited about litterbugs today? You need something dramatic to get people heated up. You have to threaten the future of my grandchildren. Litterbugs ain’t going to do it. Global warming is what we need. It has always been more of a political thing than a scientific thing.
