Disgustingly Obese corn

Aww man that is horrible... How cruel. Hopefully the new owner will take it upon herself to help that snake lose weight, otherwise...

I'm amazed that it has survived 9 years, the strain on its organs must be massive.

Poor thing, most people who do not own reptiles think that a snake can't become obese, well there's your proof people...

Sparkle is giving Curly the opportunity to swim in the bath so that should count as exercise. I think the viv was too small as well. My snakes get the opportunity to have a wriggle on the carpet. When I get some good quality stacking vivs then I'll buy them (corns are currently in tubs) and put plenty of stuff to climb in them so the snakes can exercise in their vivs.

Lynn, (SPARKLE) is a good friend of mine, and curly (big bertha) has been to the vet many a time. The snake cannot excercise too much due to liver and kidney damage, but she gets baths every other day for a wee swim.

Shes a 9 year old corn, and it will take over a year to get the weight down. Curly is in the best hands possible now!

Can you say bad impaction.. Obviously a weight issue going on here, but that poor thing looks like it needs to make a movement..

Omg, you'd think that the previous owner might have caught a clue at SOME point? That' just terrible. I hope that snake can recover on a good diet. Too bad Atkins doesn't make snake diets.... Glad to hear about the direction this is taking.

Wow! How the hell could the original owner not have realised how obese that snake was?? Corns aren't meant to look like royal pythons! They must not have handled it or allowed to to exercise much as you woudln't think 1 adult mouse every 5 days could get a corn soooo fat! Poor thing - I'm sure he'll be much happier after losing a bit of weight!

Jeez, did the original owner not know they had a corn snake? Did they think they were powerfeeding a boid or something?? That's just cruel.

Elle, I'm glad the new owner will be taking better care of that poor snake. Yuck! :puke01:

Seriously didn't know a corn snake could get so fat. Hope her liver wasn't damaged too much. Geezus! I can't even imagine how she could move having to drag all that around! poor snakey. At least it looks like she is in great hands now and will have a chance to lose weight and live a better life.

And unlike Vanessa Feltz Curly will be able to keep the weight off...

The photo where you can see more of the snake, it looks like fatty tissue to me.........kind of like when a person gets cellulite.

Bless the poor thing....their old answer was obviously an idiot.

Wow! I've been concerned that my 4 year old male is getting a bit pudgy and am cutting back on feedings, but he's anorexic compared to that! As others have said, how can anyone think that is normal?

I'm really glad its in the hands of someone who cares now and that it's getting the help it needs. Hopefully, it will live a much longer life now.

Is there no possibility the snake could be egg bound? The "lumps" of fat just look suspiciously egg shaped to me. I guess eggs do not get that large though. :shrugs:

Good grief!!!

My mother in law has dogs that look like that!!! Some people seem to think they are doing their animals a favour by letting them get so grossly obese...maybe this corn owner was of the same thinking?!?!?!
