Do you like lizards?

Today I was out with my camera. Here are the results :)

Habitat

Lacerta agilis
young male

young female

Zootoca vivipara

adult

youngster

Forgive my ignorance but do you guys have many species of lizard? I had thought there was only one, but I was clearly wrong!

Great pictures!

do you guys have many species of lizard?

We have a few species of lizards here in Germany. The species I showed above are the most common ones.

Here's the third common species

Podarcis muralis

male

female

The other species are Lacerta viridis and Lacerta bilinieata. These two are EXTREMLY rare and very threatened. To be honest, these species exist just in small natural resources.

thanks a lot!

If I find some I will post some ;)

It's not so easy to find those species here, they live extremly hidden and you find them only in a few refuges.

To find them is one thing, to photograph them another thing ;)

WOW. I love the scenery and open field! Lol. Also, the green on the second lizard picture, the young male, is very beautiful!!!

Amazing pictures! All of them are crisp and clear!

I forgot the most common lizard in germany, the blindworm.

Anguis fragilis

Lizards in Germany??? Whodathunkit?

Thanks for sharing the pics, just one thing...your blind worm lizard doesn't look a bit blind (or even like a lizard for that matter, more like a snake with a lizards head)...no white tipped cane or anything....hmmmmm...lol

yes, you're right. the european blindworm doesn't look blind and off course it isn't! It's one of a thousand non-scientific names which doesn't fit ;)

nevertheless, the blindworm is no snake, it's a true lizard - without legs. It has eyelids :bang:

I know, not a lizard but I found it in the same area where I found the other animals in this thread. garbage in the nature doesn't have to be a problem anyway ;)

natrix natrix (european grass snake)

Great pictures. All I've ever seen around my place is a Texas Horned Toad, which is another common name that's totally wrong.
