Hey, just to let everyone know...NEVER...EVER...EVER...NEVER...Text and drive!!!!!

This past week I was on my way to college class...texting my friend...driving...and ran off the road. When I looked up all I saw was trees. So I jerked my wheel and got back on the road, fishtailed, and flipped my truck twice before landing in the woods! It is only by the grace of God that I walked away with only a bump on my head and CocaCola matted in my hair!

Two months one of my friends was killed by someone who was texting and driving. He was coming home from school, and she was headed back to pick up some books she left. He veered into the other lane and caused her to run off the road, over a guardrail, and into a small river.

I just feel like I need to tell everyone I care about (and I care about...everyone) that they should never ever text and drive. I know that this is a growing problem and needs to be stopped.

For me, I was the cause of the accident and I was my own victim BUT people who text and drive are putting others in great danger also!!

So please, take this to heart! And NEVER text, play with the radio, put in a CD, or talk on the phone while driving!!!
 
wow, Im glad taht you made it okay.
I've been texting and driving for 5 years straight,
but I know how badly it would ended up when
I am not paying attention.
That's why I work on my skill when texting without looking at the phone.
I am a deaf person, but I had to find a way to have communication with someone
to let them know that I am on there way, or needed anything on the way.
But right now, they are illegal to text and drive in 50 states.
I've always preceed with cautions.

I really encourage you to either text BEFORE leaving or pull over. It is so much easier just to pull over other than risk yours or someone elses life. I thought I was good at it to. I have been texting and driving for three years without ever running off the road. All it takes is that one unexpected turn...No one, no matter how "good" they are at texting while drving...has the power to prevent an accident when their eyes are on the phone (even for half a second) and not on the road!

So next time, try texting before you leave, at stop signs/red lights or just pull over! Its so easy and SO much safer!

The guy who hit my friend had been texting and driving for 10 years!
 
I'm glad to hear that you're ok. I'm sorry to hear about your friend, as well. This thread reminds me of another recent thread (http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88229) regarding texting and driving. I've done it in the past, but it was infrequent that i'd do it. Same goes for talking on the phone. Right now, I don't have a phone or car so it's not a worry to me.

I rarely text and drive though, I don't do it everyday.
I understand what you mean, and Im sorry about your friend btw.

Which is GREAT! I am glad this is a law, I just hope everyone follows it and takes it to heart...

How will cops enforce this though??? Espeically in rural towns when cops can't actually "see" the driver in their car??
 
True, I mean..I've seen many people actually holds up their cell phone on steering wheel to focus on the phone than the road...that's the MOST dangerous I ever seen.
I am pretty sure that cops in bigger vehicle actually can see what they are doing in smaller vehicle.

IDK about where you live, but here in the south, the cops are the ones with the smallest vehicles. Everyone else has large trucks or 4WDs...And the cop cars are pretty small. We do have a few chargers, but not many. I think thats the problem...How much can a cop see passing a jacked-up ford going 60 on the main highway? ....Not much..at all.
 
As a motorcyclist I want to thank all the texters who are so cavalier with my life and the lives of their fellow travelers. I can only hope they run into an equally thoughtful drunk.

I wouldn't wish that on anyone! Its the worst feeling to wreck!! I hope no one gets hurt from texting OR drunk driving, but that they will just be smart enough to stop doing dangerous things while driving.
 
i dont use my phone at all while driving. but my mom and i drove to see my brother in pittsburgh last weekend and saw a guy on the ohio turnpike, with a laptop on his steering wheel, and cellphone on his shoulder to his ear. no joke he was going 35 in a 65 and was half on the shoulder of the road. it was scary. what idiots.

im sorry to hear about your friend but im also happy to hear that your alright. be safer now. im glad you learned something important that day.

Actually, it has been shown that, even if one keeps their eyes on the road, texting, or talking on phone (even without it being hand held), can affect your reaction time and, thus, creates the potential (or a greater potential, that is) for an accident or to cause an accident.
 
Having your friend die in an accident, then you continue to text for two more months until your own accident, shows how hard a habit, apparently, it is to break. I'm glad you're okay!

We didn't actually know that the man who hit her had been texting until yesterday, which is why I started this post. If I would have known, I would have definatly stopped texting earlier!
 
I am glad you are alright.

When I drive, my cell goes in my glove box and stays there until I pull over and stop or get where I am going. There is nothing worth risking my life or others that can't wait. I remember the days when you could only talk on the phone at home.

Me to...I actually turn mine off or on silent so that if it goes off I won't be tempted to look at it.

*Note* I don't mean to be mean about it or seem like I am griping at everyone, I just think it is SO important that this message is spread around to people who drive and text or anything else. Driving and texting kills so many people, it is the same as drunk driving. So I am not saying that you are bad and terrible if you do text and drive, I am just saying PLEASE be more considerate when driving and put the phone away. Save your life and others lives.
 
haha, I don't even like talking on the phone when I'm the bus! (it's annoying to others).
probably about half the time my phone rings I don't answer - to avoid being rude to cashiers, because I'm doing something else, whatever. I would NEVER talk while driving. I would never text either.

I'm not that old, but I remember when you only got calls at home too. We all got along just fine back then; cell phones can always wait. Answering a call is never worth putting someone else's life at risk.
