Dog Progression Thread

Wulp lol There going back with there mom for at least a month so b expecting update pics sometime in march! :) do you think the 2 and a half days is going to hurt them very badly in the long run?

Well at least they had each other. Guess you will see in the future!

What problems do dogs have from being pulled away to young? I mean is it like mental problems or physical?

Mental. Their mother helps to socialize them. To let them know what is or is not acceptable behaviour. She corrects them when they bite too hard in a language they understand. She teaches them how to act with other dogs and with people.
MANY behaviour issues that you see in puppymill dogs are because they are taken away from the mother so young.

Well im sure hoping and praying that Echo and Sawyer will be ok!

I'm sorry, but this really makes me wonder about the person who bred them. How could he not know? Or does he really not care? I don't even own a dog, but even I know that they need their mom for 8 weeks....

Thank you very much for letting me know asap so I know to give them back!

A couple of days shouldn't have any long lasting affects. But what starsevol was talking about is more of what I was refering too. 8 weeks is pretty much a written rule minimum in any breeding. May not intentionally hurt the pups, but out of lack of knowledge. Being with the litter an the mother the extra time also allows the pup to mature and be mentally stable before the shock of being seperated from all that it knows.
Now on the other hand just shed light on the other side. I had a female that I got from a breeder, where the mother died due to gestational diabeties. The pup was hand raised from about 2 weeks on (as well as the rest of the litter). The breeder gave me the option of not taking her and waiting till the next breeding. I spent as much time as able over at the breeders and the breeder themselves spent huge amounts of time with the litter. And she turned out be the best dog I have ever owned in over 30 years of owning dogs. As well as 20 years of those 30 breeding them.

* but note the extra time spent by both myself and the breeder doing socialization and in general being with the pups. As as both of us being experienced in breeding dogs for some time.

Regretfully she passed due to one kidney not being developed properly and struggling with a slightly less than 100% second kidney and due to this I could never breed her.

Puppies need to stay with their parents for 8 eight weight MINIMUM (means at least).

I can't even read through the rest of this thread without being infuriated.

I didn't open the OP's original dog debate because I heard the mention of it being kept outside. really really upsets me that there are so many uneducated dog owners out there.

There inside doggies. I did not know about the 8 week thing because i had not planed on puppies I was going to get a housebroken dog if I even got a dog witch I was not planing to do unless my parents said I could get in an indoor dog. the reason they said no before is because they knew about these 2 :)

Well I'm glad you gave the dogs back to the breeder for a while. Given your previous stubborness on getting the dogs, snakes... I am surprised you took advice so quickly, and very happy you did for the puppies sake. I'm also thinking they were a bit over whelming as you mentioned house breaking.
House breaking is one thing the puppies will begin to learn from their Mom if the breeder is a good one.
I think in your previous thread on getting a dog, people mentioned crating. Crating helps the dog feel secure and aide in socialization and house breaking.
Did the breeder give puppy shots, have them checked out any of that? Do you have a vet in line to spay/neuter???? Hear worm, flea and tick meds, just asking?

Yes to the shots/having a vet. All tho im not sure if I am getting the black one spayed. I would love to breed him but im going to look more in to it. it would not be for a few years and I dont know about the oldest a dog can be to breed or anything so im going to look in to it a looooot more. Yea ill admit im pretty hardheaded but im trying to do better and listen because I know it will be better in the long run for myself and the animal.

Um, males get neutered, not spayed.
And why would you even think of breeding a mixed breed dog when thousands die in shelters every single day?

Well chat speak or not, don't breed that dog as Beth says there a thousands of dogs out there that need homes, don't bring anymore into the world. Male dogs want to amrk territory inside and out, you are asking for a problem you don't want.
And Umm yes they have had their shots, been tested for parvo and heartworm????? We take our dog yearly for heartworm test and refill of meds, we do our own shots except for rabies. The yearly vet bill is around $125.00, as long as he is well. Not to mention grooming flea treatment...

This is why so many people recommended you not get a dog! You are irresponsible and not ready. Go to your local animal shelter, look at all of the dogs in the kennels there, and then tell yourself that most will not get homes and will have to be euthanized! You are going to add to the problem by breeding a mixed dog!

Please let the breeder find the puppies new homes you are still to irresponsible to take them on. Even though the breeder is also not a responsible pet owner since he let them breed in the first place.

The breeder is his uncle, from what I read. Also, he is a teenager, I was younger when I got my first dog, it helped me learn responsibility, so telling him that he is too irresponsible to own a dog is kind of a mean thing to say.

Nitelion, I know you are excited about your new puppies and want everyone to see them. And, rightfully so. But, if you ever get tired of hearing the negativity from certain members, do not post about your animals. It cuts the problem in half. I hope you give your dogs long and happy lives, they are very pretty, and taking them to be with their mother for a few more weeks so that you can better prepare is a very smart thing to do, as others have said.

I have to commend you on taking the dogs back to their mom. It will greatly increase their mental health. :)

However, I really really REALLY have to insist you DO NOT breed your dogs. Sit down and really think about the numbers going on around you every single day. Every single day THOUSANDS... yes thousands... of dogs and cats are being killed.

These are animals that were born into this world innocent and beautiful. Then they are abandoned by the people closest to them. Then, if they're lucky and in good health, they sit in a kennel for a certain amount of time. If they don't catch anyone's eye, they get taken into the back room, laid down on a table, given one last pat on the head and kiss on the nose and killed.

This is what happens every single day because there are TOO many dogs in this world. There are too many because people are either willingly breeding them like you want to do, or acquiring a dog and not being able to or refusing to fix it and it gets pregnant or impregnates another dog. Then the puppies get dumped on the streets or impulse buyers get them, and give them to shelters within a year because they outgrow their puppy stage.

However, people breeding purebred dogs responsibly are another story. These are people ensuring that their puppies are healthy, meet breed standards, and are given to good homes forever. They ENSURE the puppies go to good homes.

Don't even get me started on puppy mills. These mills are 100% legal, by the way. Imagine the sheer amount of dogs they alone are producing.

And you want to ADD to that?

Please reconsider and never ever breed these animals. Please get them fixed and give them the best life you can.

Something to keep in mind, getting a male dog neutered also will help house breaking. Alot of times a male dog will pee inside to mark his territory, by neutering him you take away part of that drive.

I was only thinking about it. If I did it would have been at least 5-7 years down the road. As of right now I do not plan on breeding them.
