Eastern Hognose.

Does anyone own one of these? Can anyone share pictures? I'm interested in getting one of these but I can't seem to find much about them. I love the jet black ones the best.

I'd make sure you can own one first. I think Ohio is similar to PA, we can't keep native animals.

Edit: From what I see, it is illegal for you to keep one.

Are you sure? From what I have read I don't see a problem. I took this off Ohio's government website. It doesn't list anything about hognoses.

I dug a little deeper and found it is okay to keep them, but you do have to have a permit. It's either 25 dollars (non commercial) or 40 (commercial with intent to breed and sell) which isn't too bad. I only would want one because I'm not sure if I would want to breed. At least for now. From my understanding they are hard to switch over to mice. They are toad/frog eaters. If you get one Guardian reptiles is a good breeder.

I had one. If you search for Addy, you'll find pics of her. I never got her switched onto mice, or anything. So I had her for what, nearly two years, assist feeding her the whole time. (She would take a mouse if I held it up to her mouth and pressed gently with it). And she thrived, until she got a mystery abcess near her vent, which despite intensive veterinary attention and treatment at home, never completely healed, although it seemed to be nearly healed when she died, months later, of unknown causes.

She was a sweet little snake, not aggressive at all, an excellent hisser and fakey striker. She started out rattlesnake colored and turned nearly pure black as she matured.

My recommendation would be to buy an established feeder, preferably CB. Good luck finding one...

That is true- if Jennea will have any available, if she is breeding them, she'd be at the top of my list of who to buy from.

Just curious, is there any other kind of hognose that can be all (or pretty much) black? Only one I have found so far is the Eastern Hoggie.
