Someone I know decided to cut their corn snake eggs yesterday 9 days before they are due to hatch they insist it will be fine but I am not so sure is it ok to cut them this early can it cause any problems?
My guess is they will not make it. That is way too early, and who knows, they make have needed a couple more days beyond the due date to fully develop.
I don't cut unless all/most of the others have pipped/emerged for a few days.
Best to let nature take its course and allow them to hatch on their own.
I only opened one of the eggs as I saw scratches all over the egg and hadn't pipped the day after either, found the little guy/girl dead in there, it was kinked. So yeah I believe in mother nature as well instead of cutting.
Some people cut to see the morph inside before their hatching date. I believe it's pretty common practice in ball pythons and other large snakes. I don't know if it's actually harmful as long as the egg sac is left intact, but I personally wouldn't risk it just to take an earlier peek. In fact, I only cut eggs when I'm already certain the hatchling inside is dead (purely out of curiosity to see what went wrong)
