Just a hypothetical worst case scenario question. Say I was in a pinch, out of mice and unable to get out to buy some more. Is there anything you can feed a snake that a person would have in their freezer that wont harm it? Or are you better off just waiting until you can get a mouse?
 
No there is probably not anything in your freezer suitable for snake food. I am gonna go out on a limb and assume maybe this is not hypothetical so if you have a young snake that does need to eat more frequently and it has been longer than 7 days you outta find a way to get a mouse. These guys can go longer of course without food, but why do that if you don't have to- buy in bulk!
 
I was at another forum and saw pics of someone feeding their cal-king chunks of raw venison.
You know, I don't think I'd try it, as I have 500+ rodents building up in my freezer for when the snakes wake up. I'll be out of them by July/August.
None of the 'solutions' have bones so, I'd guess your snake would get a calcium deficiency before long.
 
Just get some frozen mice. If you can't get them in a reasonable timeframe, consider having them shipped to you, or raising your own.
Any alternatives would be more expensive than a diet of rodents, and may lead to a vet visit or a dead snake.
If there were something cheaper/easier to feed them than rodents, then we would already be doing it.
 
T-rex made them a while ago.
They were called snake steak sausages.
As I remember they just didn't sell.
 
On a slightly lighter and off-topic note-- pictures of snakes eating sausages is just plain comical. I mean, we joke around that they have dog-like personalities, but...
 
So THAT'S how my snake got mad cow disease!
Think of all the animals that had to be killed to uphold public safety!
Now, how many sausages could we have made from all of that cow!

No doubt! especially that pic of the Gaboon Viper...I can just hear it now

Welcome back and next up we have one of Africa's deadliest vipers...the Gaboon Viper produces more venom than almost any other snake...and here we have this mankiller eating a...is that... a....snausage?
 
Yeah, T-rex had scenting products like 'mouse maker' and 'lizard maker'.
No idea if they worked or not.
 
The really funny thing is that these alternative products are a LOT harder to find then f/t mice. Honestly.

I have bags of mice in my freezer from the show, but none of them are adult mice, cause I didn't anticipate getting this rescue corn who needed them. So I have to go find adult mice from pet stores until the next show. Yesterday I went to the pet store to get adult mice, and they were all out! Oh no! They were all out of all sizes that might be suitible (adult mice, rat pup) So what did I do? I could have waited for them to get some in, but I drove a mile or so down the street and bought three adult mice from a chain pet store. It was quick and easy, and now I have some for next time.
 
I hate when I am in a pinch and have to buy from a petstore. I pay 25 cents for a f/t adult mouse (in quantities of 100) from a local guy and petco charges 2.50 + tax.
